you have to pass a decibel test in order to write it off...
either you put your stock exhaust back on, or pay the bail...
i should mention...the way they perform the test is they take your vehicles redline...in your case 6200...they divide it in half (3100 rpm)and measure the decibel level of your exhaust from i think 6 feet away from the rear bumper of the car...if you register 95 decibels (im pretty sure thats what it was) or below you pass...
i would google california driving laws to be sure...
it is not illegal to have aftermarket parts on your exhaust as long as they conform to manufacturer standards...it is illegal however, to modify your exhaust in a way that causes it to become louder than stock...it is definitely illegal to remove your catalytic converters...even if you put on a catted y pipe that would technically still be illegal since you have moved the cataltic converters from their original placement in the exhaust path...
yes you can add a 24 inch resonator to your I pipe and probably pass the decibel exam, but IMO its not worth taking the risk of rolling in there with no catalytic converters...all it takes is one look under the car and your headed over to the state referee for a full vehicle inspection, not just exhaust...
hope this helps.

well if im not wrong. i think all you have to do is change what the cop told you to change then go any sheriff station and tell them you want to get a ticket signed off then a cop will go out inspect your car and make sure everything is fixed according to wat the ticket stated then he'll sign it. then send it through mail. just make sure you make a copy for yourself of the ticket aftr being signed. just so you can have proof that he signed it in case they ever question it. thats wat i did. hopefully it helps.
