Default RX7/forged 370/TC78

Hey guys, been looking around here lately and have made alot of progress and decided to start a build thread, to maybe get some ideas and opinions

any way I was a huge rotor head till it pist me of the last time....... here is what that setup was.... full standalone, GT42, custom manifolds, ect

I had fabbed everything there, manifolds, ect

I have a really good friend with a 6.0l iron block in a grand national with a big single and after riding in that i knew what had to be done

Anyway went with the 4.8/5.3 iron block for the strength and cylinder wall thickness..... and want the smaller cube/short stroke of the 4.8, as it will be forged and built to rev later on.... something a lil different aswell

so what i did was pick up a 2000 4.8l 2wd pullout with 80k on it complete with tranny, harness, computer, ect...... for $900

pic when picked up

first thing that was done was everything was ripped down blasted and painted, all black is single stage, and the red is a PPG three stage.... the same paint as what my car is.... needless to say pics dont do justice

Thanks to Jason and Gary for this nice work.

tranny just has sealer

.
.
.
.
.

As you can see I went with a Edelbrock Victor single plane intake manifold aswell as one of their TB elbows

Using a grannyspeed cradle

Using F-body pan, windage tray, pickup

Picked up a new C6 front pulley..... sits tighter to the engine than a Fbody even

Picked up a brand new set of C6 exhaust manifolds to be used facing forward and down.... fits like a glove

Got a New meziere water pump, one of my fav peices

Got all of my plumbing supplies sitting here

got a Mild Comp cam

New Motron 60lb injectors

Edelbrock fuel rails

Anyway.... I currently have the engine/drivetrain installed for good, and everything fits perfectly, aside from a tranny yoke

here is as it sits currently, just some of the parts stuck on, not everything i have sitting here

you will notice i have already fully tucked my wiring, and the brakes have been redone to manual with the leverage ratio being changed to compensate

all this work is being done by me...... and by some close friends

so this is where i am at right now

Looks like a fun project man. Is it an optical illusion, or is that elbow/TB actually going to clear the stock FC hood? Good luck and make sure to update the thread as you progress.

Cool build man. Are you using the stock iron heads and what about the rear. What rear are you using. Definitely want to see more...

yep that is him

had lots of time today

got the pushrods back in, intake, TB, elbow all done

and got the harness perty much whipped

but good news...

cranked it over till i got 40psi oil pressure cranking...... had good spark and could hear the injectors, so my harness is good to go

missing some fittings to hook up my fuel supply, but a little carb cleaner down the hole and she fired to life ..... so good news, darn excited, different sound that is for sure

anyway here is what came out of the stock harness

pic of accomplishments today

and hood clearance or lack of for those curious,

Looking good. Just a heads up cause I tell this to everyone. NHRA won't let you mount the FPR on the firewall. Needs to be 6" forward incase the something in the bellhousing lets go.

I love it! 5.3/4.8's are often overlooked for the 6.0. That car now has the right engine! Love the car. Keep up the good work.
