So the Spec 5 finally went out on me.The old setup had a Spec 3 that had 40000 miles on it.I would have liked a little more mileage outta the Spec 5 but not complaining.So i did ALOT of digging and searching about what clutch i should go with now,did i want another spec 5 or try the twin disk or go with a Cartek setup or a McLeod or Text.I remember someone on here making a post about a company called SouthBend Clutch.Nobody on here uses them really.So i found their site and searched them online.Apparently theyre very big with diesel guys and have a good record with imports as well.

I called them up and spoke with John about my setup(>600rwhp) and that i wanted something that would be nice to drive but that i could take to the track if i wanted to and beat on it.He decided on a full face ceramic clutch that would drive close to stock with no issues in stop and go,but i could go beat on it at the track with no issues.Now get this,the clutch comes with a 12,000 mile/12 month warranty.He said the warranty is valid whither i only drove it on the street or kept it to the track.The clutch will hold 800ft lb's of torque to the rear wheels.They had made a mistake and forgot to ship it out to me last friday,so this week they upgraded me to overnight shipping on the clutch,cant ask for better than that.It will be installed tuesday but heres the pics of it,IT CAME WITH A NEW THROWOUT BEARING AND A NEW PILOT BEARING.i thought that was pretty awesome.Ill post back up after its installed and give my comments on it.

I am very interested in this. These guys have an excellent reputation in the diesel world, so it will be interesting to see how they perform in the LSx world. Keep us posted.

So you bought an LS7 pressure plate with a different disk? Not quite sure if that'll hold 800 lb-ft of torque...

The LS7 PP is a rather great unit, it's the LS7 disc that glazes so damn easily.

Now, the first run of the LS7 clutches had the PP's failing I.E. not fully disengaging(including mine).... So lets hope that this is not the case with this new company's clutch.

Looks like just a stock clutch with a different disk.We use to do that stuff awhile ago when we were limited on clutch choices.Problem is the PP like to break.

just got the car back.Everything was so smooth i almost stalled it.pedal pressure is lighter than the spec 5 and probably lighter than stock but you can tell it engages nice and quick.It engages about halfway up the pedal which is what i like.The old spec 5 disk actually had cracks in it even thought the pucks themselves were fine.im going to have to talk to spec about that 1.The car actually appears to rev faster as well even thought i have an sfi steel flywheel.going to try to put a few more miles on it before my trip then when i get back ill get a retune.

and about it being a stock pressure plate.They told me that they were going to use an Exedy pressure plate for the same price.But they called back and said that Exedy is on backorder straight from Japan and could take forever to get so they would use a LUK pressure plate.

just drove home and realized i dont even have to use the gas pedal to get the car moving or to change gears.theres zero chatter and no bucking.awesome so far.itll be a few weeks before i beat on it but ill post back up when i do.

no problem i cant wait to get on it myself.and i forgot to add the LUK pressure plate i believe is around 2600 lbs whereas the Exedy would have been around 3400 lbs

currently,a hair over 600rwhp.when i go back to retune im uping the boost a bit.

edit....and i tried the clutch test thingy.I was a bit nervous about revving it to 5k when the clutch is brand new so i went to 4k and the car didnt budge so it seems to fully disengage which is a plus.

With 600+rwhp, how come you didn't opt for an unsprung hub? I think that would have been a good idea.
