| So basically you have a car and need to do motor, trans, chassis, safety equipment, certify it and get a nhra license, tune the motor, tune the chassis.
Which way are you going to go, turbo, supercharger, nitrous, all motor, auto, manual, mini tubbed, top dollars suspension, there are a lot of variables.
Since no one pretty much cares if you can help and you'll end up paying someone to do all of the work, I'd figure some where between 20,000-30,000 depending on what engine you build and trans, chassis stuff.
I think the cheapest way would be a BBC on nitrous with a glide.

| probably higher, since he would still need someone to tune later, i dont think its a good idea, start with something slower. Things can and will get out of hand at times. |

| A lot of people have spent that much or more and don't run in the 9's. Not only do you need lots of cash, you need to align yourself with the right people. Find a local shop producing 8 sec turn key cars, and I'm sure you will have a really good idea what you're looking at. Good luck. |

I bet $20K is less than half what he has in it. |

| You need to price it out on paper, everything you need to buy.
rims and tires
suspension
rear end
trans and converter
engine
turbo kit
fuel system
engine management - computer
gauges
other electronics
cage and other chassis work
seat and other safety equipment
Labor for everything
Plus everything else I didn't list.
Under 20k and turbo
I think you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than building a whole 8 sec turbo car from scratch for under 20k

| If you must go 8's and can't do the work yourself, turbo probably isn't the way to go if you only have 20k to put into the whole build.

| There is no way that you can have it done for under 20k if your not doing any of the work yourself. Half the money or more is going into the motor and turbo setup depending on the combo, and 2 to 3k will go into the trans another $1000 to $1500 for a converter that will hold the power you are looking for and then there is chassis work the materials are not that expensive but the labor is. Fuel system is going to be close to 2k or more and then pay someone to tune it. You might find someone who is just starting a business and is willing to cut you a break for exposure but your still going to be 30k. |
