Well, got the headers in tday and carb studs in so i can verify that things will clear and such. Started seeing how the old LT1 bracket was going to mount...

Had to make a little room for the header on the driver side to clear the steering shaft, other than that it was al good getting them in.

That is looking awsome. I'm heading out next weekend to look at a 383 stroker down in NC. Are you going to have to mod the header to fit around the steering shaft?

Keep it going!

Yea, a "controlled" dent got it to clear, a victor junior intake wil fit as well as my performer, but since i already had a performer and i will not be going over 6000 RPM i thing this will do for a while, do a vic jr and get the most out of it.

Sorry, didn't see that in your first post.

Hoping to have it going mid 7's on the 1/8th. Not going to be on the street, so can try some different things. Not sure what the motor i'm looking at has for a intake. I'll just be happy to get it down the track for now.

From my research, a stealth intake will clear due to the low profile and pull to 6500 or so, so if the high RPM is not what you want it is a good selection.

anything special have to be bought to do this? I am fixing to do this swap myself and I am curious. I will be running a 355sbc and a TH350 behind it. Any special mounts or kmember modifications?

Nope, just the modification to the firewall/cowl area. The TH350 will need some type of modification to the cross member for it to bolt up, a welder will be your friend. Keep the intake about 5.5 inches tall from the top of the block to the carb mounting point and you will have room for the carb and a air cleaner or carb hat. If you are gong to be a dedicated track car with power you will want to look into motor mounts that will be able to mount all 2 bolt holes as the LT1 has the use of 2 SBC location mounting holes and one further back, or engine braces wil do fine.

maybe a comp engineering tq link up front attatching the cylinder head to the frame rail?

Also I ordered the BMR th350 crossmember. So just trim the cowl and I am good to go? You got any pics on what you mean about the motor mounts?

I will see if i can load some pics later, the rear two motor mount holes are the ones you use for a SBC, the front hole is just not used.

Here's a picture of me and my old mans sbc conversions. Both kept EFI though...

My 355 SBC...

My old mans 408 SBC...
He has cut the metal where the wipers are since these pics.

My car ran a 12.4 at 114 with a 2.0 60' on motor w/ a stock reground lt1 cam. I'm about to swap cams and spray it a 150 shot. With traction hoping for high 10 w/n20 and high 11 motor.

My old mans is a whole new story. Fully built 408 with a 200 shot, 4 link suspension, cage, 4l80e auto. Lookin at high 9's.
Good luck with your install. I think you'll be way more satisfied then with the LT1.

It's not really that I wouldn't, its just I'm not the one who made it, it was my old man. He machined the piece on his lathe.

Buy the GM performance parts intake for the conversion and you can 1) Leave the opti in place or 2) buy the block iff plate for it.

Well, after having a few days off and many hours and gallons of gas used for finding small BS parts that are not a big deal but nit pick small shit, i only worked on the car actually today, this is how it is looking, i still need to install the fuel pump, but some if the fule line has been ran, valve covers are actually on instead if sitting there, engine has oil and a filter in, starter will go in tomorrow, i also started with the wiring and have the oil pressure gauge and temp hooked up.

Whew...just got done installing the fuel pump setup, it was kind of a PITA, more than usual because i was already tired, the plumbing is 80% complete for the cooling system, i used a third gen radiator since i couldnt find reducers to make the LT1 radiator work. Fuel pump is wired in the back of the car, i will complete it tomorrow i hope.
