Default Shakedown results 490 BBC 78 mailbu.

Finally got to the track, combo is below with video:

Combo is a BBC Tall deck 490ci 13:1
NOS Bigshot 225 hit
Weisco Pistons
Brodix BB-2 xtra heads (365cc)
Jesel rockers
Super Vic intake
Pro Systems 1050 Dominator
270\280 @ .50 .715/.710 110cl
stepps pan
Hooker super comp 2 inch headers with 3.5 Flowmaster merge collectors
3.5 exhaust Dynomax muffles

Turbo 400
stall ???
4.10's
28x10.5 ET Drags

Had some issues with no vacuum, and two step was turned all the way down to 2500rpms. I also banged the rev limiter on the 1-2 shift which killed some momentum. Also could not spray car after the one pass because the cheapy throttle bracket was flexing like mad. All in all, not a bad first day out in some heat.

Best Motor pass - 1.46 60ft 6.34 1/8th @ 109mph 9.98 @ 135mph 1/4
Only spray pass - 1.36 60ft 5.90 1/8th @ 118mph 9.24 @ 145mph 1/4

Thanks!. I did all the calculators and it is coming up with 775-825hp at flywheel, and 630-660rwhp, all on motor.

Car was 3275 with the smallblock and me, has to be at least 3400 now.

Want to get to the dyno to see how far this motor is really pulling, and also to play with timing on the motor. Hope to be there this week.

Kinda tricky to do being that I do not spray on 93 no matter what the combo is. I bought the motor complete, or else I would have spent more money on the cam and headwork and went 11:1, that way I could drive it easier on 93, but still use the good gas when at the track.

Nice looking car! I use to race a '79 Malibu 2 door and an '80 Wagon about 15 years ago. Bob

It is possible.

490 cubes is allot and you can achieve over 700 HP with that many cubes and 93 octane.

Its doable on the ragged edge, but why not just do a 540-565 and get away with much better street manners?

1) I have a few 454 blocks

2) It is cheaper to build

2) If i have 540 cubes i will be shooting for 800 FWHP, so it will still be "on the ragged edge"

I will probably do a big single turbo in the future, so it will all not matter then anyway. over 1000 HP on pump gas.....oh yea

Clean car and nice passes.

Are those all glass windows? If so, its time for some dark window tint and it would look killer man.

Stock suspension I assume?

Yeah, need to get them tinted up for next year. Gotta watch as some track officials have an issue with that.

stock suspension (50/50 shocks, moroso big block trick springs and drag sway bar)

awesome. nice to see this thread. i have a 86 cutlass im building. im going to run the 383 for a while to get it going and get the car in better shape. then switch to the big block and maybe a decent size turbo. im starting to like the g bodies better than the f bodies.

That's a nice first time out!! A 325/50/15 Radial tire would take care of that rear end sway.

I'm saying that's a good 700hp N/A and 850 on the hose. You're well on your way to chopping that ET down.

What kind of rpm? shift/trap?

I did some calculators off the net and I am getting numbers of 800-825 at flywheel and 625+ to wheels with 3485 race weight on motor. Not sure how accurate that is.

Cross traps at 7200 on spray. Broke ring gear last time out and just stepped down to 3.90. We'll see how she does next week. Upped the jetting to a 300 hit. I want my 8.

Killer Ride, all this big block stuff popping up is making me want to ditch my Ls1 Build and pick up a 454 for an aluminum headed 496 with EFI. Like ZOne's sig, ill take the extra weight and the kazillion more cubes. 582 Low Deck anyone?

I ran a tall deck 496 in a 77 camaro with a build similar to yours, at 3700lbs w driver , 400 turbo,4.56s, and 295 65 15 mt drag radials,cal-tracs , it ran best of 9.86@136 mph, 1.37 60ft,at cecil co, using a computech , it showed 750hp fw. nice deal using that gm 427 truck block, lets you use a 6.535 rod in er! Now its got a 925 hp 565 in it,8.50 cage, sold out and tubbed and 4-linked it..........plans were to run the 8.50 index at cecil, now i just wanna get it together for next year

Ran the car on the dynojet Friday. Its a notoriously stingy dyno.

562 rwhp & 603 rwtq on motor. No nitrous pulls. Made 550rwhp from 5800 through 7300.
No graph.
