Default sbc 383 vs lq4

i found a truck that i want to buy . 95 gmc extended cab short bed 4x4 3/4 ton (6 lug wheels)
has a running 350 in it and have been told it drove fine when it was parked.

been sitting a little over 2 years .

the truck will be used as a DD and to tow the gto to the track.
trailer and car 5k lbs

i want to add some power down low for towing and mpg.
so my choices are a 383 and a cam for bottom end . im guessing about 2k to do a mild build maybe 3 with heads .

or buy a lq4 have as much power if not more and better mpg.but would be closer to 4k (motor +wiring harness+comput.
er) and then trying to get the dash to work with it as far as the gauges

anyone have any GOOD input ?

i dont want a newer truck because i have a filthy job.

Well, 1995 can be dynoed for emissions unless you dont live in an emissions county/state. So, a carb setup will save money all around, my last 383 i had 3000 or so in it and my current 6.0 has about 1700 carbed stock bottom end and milled heads. So, if you dont mind carbing it, you could use the 6.0 with a older 700R or TH350 and it will tow like a champ. I hate EFI so dont ask me anything about it. I can tune my **** with a screw driver and that is that. LOL

also considering a rear mount turbo, sts type ,or maybe just something i build .
the 383 would be cheeper to drop the compression. but the lq 4 may not need to drop the compression.

im only looking for bottom end power so a smaller turbo maybe ?

lq4 is the way to go. stock scr is 9.4:1 with some of the best flowing stock cathedral port heads. will support over 500rw even in stock form as long as u supply enough fuel, keep it cool, and proper igniton curve, and fmic.
go with stock lq4 mpt70 and 10psi on pump gas with fmic. that should be more than enuff for ur truck

the only problem i see going LQ4 is getting it to mate up to the truck as in gauges
i think having a maf would be useful. the sbc just has a t/b

My 1995 Camaro Gauges work perfectly.

All you have to do is get the 1998 Temp Sensor for the Water Gauge..get the 99-02 F-body Oil Sensor and Pigtail, splice into the Alternator wire, and line all the other wires up.

Then Tune it and set the Tach Pulse from 3 to 6.
