I'm in the middle of a project, 98+ trans am, 427 bbc 60+ roller valvetrain, dart heads, efi, and a vortech blower in the works. 15x12 alumastars in the back, not sure about a tranny, want a manual that can handle the power but still be driveable on the street.

70 Chevelle 454 LS-6

Im in the process of having the motor pulled and rebuilding it to stock again. Car has spent the last 10 years in the garage at my current house and probably another 15 at the previous house. My dad was the second owner bought it in 1971 he was nice enough to give it to me.

Getting my project off the ground as we speak.... It started out as a 10 second LT1 355..... Got tired of that and wanted to make in excess of 1200hp and shoot for low 9's to mid 8's.... Decided on a 370" SBC with a big thumper single turbo, dart block, AFR 227's..... That project turned out to be huge on the cash tip seeing as how it was going in a 4th gen and on paper was working out to close to 25-30K (so tack on about 15% for unforseen expenses)..... Called that off due to trying to buy a house instead of messing with cars.......

So now the current project is going the BBC route and either doing an EFI 540 BBC on the bottle and remaining PSCA class legal for three classes or doing an EFI 572 on the bottle.... Wiring is all ripped out of the car and the car is going under the knife to upgrade the cage to 12 point status and rewiring the whole car with a Painless setup. Block is going to be a Dart Big M, Lunati Crank, Oliver rods, JE Pistons..... something relatively streetable but capable of 9 second motor passes and 8 second bottle passes..... I should have pics soon....

Maxxum,

May I ask why you would run such a small motor?

I mean if you are going to pay for the extra weight, why not run some cubic inches?

I mean a 406 sm. blk is bigger, lighter and both built equally will outrun the 402 fat blk.

I've got big blocks in my blood & everyone runs small blocks.I'm running a heads-up class that goes by lbs./c.i. so the bigger the motor the more spots I have to give.

Default Procharged 70 Chevelle SS454

My combo is a 70 Chevelle with a 454 and ATI Procharger. Pump gas friendly 10 second car. Nothing fancy in the engine but the D1 makes up for it.

I’ve had car for 8 years, frame up resto for 5 years
Replaced everything but the motor and the paint. (black cherry, flawless)
Paid $5500 for it, got a grate deal. The guy’s wife was pregnant and wanted a house
And his parents wanted it out of their driveway.
It was set up for drag racing, (slicks, shinnies, 5.38 rear, stripped down.) I converted it for the road.
The seller and his brother built it over 10 years and put $22,000 into it.
I have about $25,000 more into it. It’s a labor of love and I will keep it for ever.
I am the biggest camaro fan, I still have my #3 camaro a.f.x. car I got when I was 3.
I also built a twin turbo 2002 blue SS to go with the 71.

i am working on a '69 camaro project which has a lot of rust. i am doing the body work myself for financial purposes (its hard to get a good autobody person to do it for cheap). we got the car in november of 2003 and it is slowly coming together as it has a lot of rust and i have found more as i uncovered things. for the motor, my dad and i have plans to put a 540 big block in it but we will see when we get to buying motor parts for it.

no offense Mike, but wrong forum. this is about putting old school motors in newer cars and the technical matters about those motors. like the sbc i'm putting in my '98 Camaro.

later,
Dave

Mike,
What year LS1 are you swapping in? Are you grabbing ECU, Wiring and all? Start a new link with your build. I have a 95 that'll get and LS1 in a few years.

Default 427 sbc

Some nice rides in here for sure.

Just stripped my 95 camaro for a diet. Was running it full weight with a hydraulic roller 383 and T56 on juice for a best of 10.87 @ 128mph. Now, built a 427 sbc with a Motown block, belt drive distributor, and a FAST system. Re-doing the 9" with a spool and T56 with Viper internals.

Oh ya, the cool part. Heads are SB2.2 ported out quite nicely. Fogger system will be added later after I play NA for a while.

I could take pics, but who hasn't seen a black 95 body stripped down to absolutely nothing. Here's a mockup of the heads though on the old LT1 block.

1971 El Camino, plans are changing right now. Had originally planned for 482 ci with LT1 T56. Have changed to 496 ci alky injected motor with TH400 and 4.88 12 bolt. "Street" car that should run low 6s high 5s 1/8 mile times.
