NHRA Special Edition Formula and Trans Am (2000-2002) was a commemorative edition to celebrate the NHRA's 50 year anniversary (in 2001), and Pontiac being a major sponsor of the NHRA for many years. In 2000 there was a total of 215 NHRA Firebirds produced, of which 97 were Formulas. In 2001 there were only 145 produced and in 2002 there were 535 produced. The total number produced is 895. The rarest are a few Trans Am Convertible NHRA SE models with approximately 15 of them. Basically the NHRA SE comes with PS cooler (which all '02 Trans Ams have now)and GSC's on 16". The autos came with 3.23's and 6 speeds came with the default 3.42. Nothing really that special except for the cool badges. You could only get NHRAs in white, black, pewter, or red. Also, when you ordered a Formula / Trans Am, you had a choice between the WS6 or NHRA package. It was either or, and they could not be combined. Pontiac has been the Official Car of the NHRA since Oldsmobile's departure as Official Car at the end of the 1995 Season. The NHRA option added $1,070 - $1,095 to the sticker price and included (but not limited to) the following: Hurst manual 6-speed (3.42 ratio) or automatic transmission (3.23 ratio), power-steering cooling, P245/50ZR16 performance tires, and NHRA-specific badges & keychain. The appeal of the 1SH option package (NHRA Special Edition) is parallel to the appeal of any "anniversary edition" car or "special pace car edition." It is a special designation to commemorate the NHRA drag racing series. The NHRA badges were made by Morgan Design Group.

According to Pontiac Historical services only 207 NHRA Firebirds were
built in 2000. Of that number only 110 were Trans Ams. The remaining
97 were Formulas.

NHRA Edition Breakdown Totals from 2000-2002:
In 2000 there was a total of 215 NHRA Firebirds produced.
In 2001 there were only 143 produced.
In 2002 there were 534 produced.

2002 NHRA Production Breakdown

Formula M6 62
Formula A4 85
Trans Am Coupe M6 136
Trans Am Coupe A4 189
Trans Am Convertible M6 16
Trans Am Convertible A4 46
TOTAL (2002) 534

alright well i posted in another post about starting my own registry of NHRA cars on this site, PM me if you wanna be include...what i have so far is pretty much nothing, but i guess trying cant hurt...the reason i would like to do this is because i see soo many people asking about how many were made and what colors options and so on, so hopefully this will help

The NHRA Special Edition was a commemorative edition offered from 2000 to 2002. It was created to help celebrate Pontiac’s major sponsorship of the National Hot Road Association (NHRA) which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2001.

The NHRA Edition package cost around 1k, it added a 3.23 A4 or a 3.42 Hurst M6 rear end, power steering cooler, P245/50ZR16 tires, badges and a keychain produced by Morgan Design Group. The only colors that were available with the 1SH option code were red, white, pewter, and black.

Hello I have a Black 02 NHRA bought it back on Nov. 11, 2001. Currently have just over 49,000 miles on her.
For the record the car only came in 4 colors, White, Red, Black and Pewter.
It was originally available for 2001, but they added 2000 during the 2001 production models and extended it upon request in 2002 productions after Jan. 2002. It was to commerate 50 years partenership with the NHRA, but not actually labeled as a 50th Partenership Anniversary model, to bad it would have upped it value.
There was an article I read online back in Nov. 2001 which explained all of this. Since I have been unable to locate the article for referencing.

They for the record made 525 models for 2002 and only sold 524, this is from a Pontiac rep. Someplace I have the totals of the other 2 years. The rarest of all was the 2001 convertable, if I recall they only made 17.

ok so ive been gone a LONG time, and im glad to see that someone took this thread over, sorry for any troubles this may have caused, if you didnt already know i had a pewter 01 trans am NHRA convt, totoaled it over the winter ( i know, what was i thinking haha) the accident recently came into court and looking to settling it..again...i received $18k for the car and bought a 06 G6 GT, something came up that if i can prove that the car is a collector car and a rare one that i may be able to get more money from the accident (if i could prove it would cost more than 18k to purchase a new one, if i could even find another 01 pewter convt a4), any help or doccuments provididng information that i can show to my lawyers?

Pontiac Enthusiast magazine published the total numbers made during its three years of production. I will look for the mag, it is stored in the attic I am sure. lol
Email Pontiac General Manager and ask for the 2001 production numbers of the car and to help them in their quest mention rpo code 1sh.

I tried contacting Pontiac and the best they could do for me was tell me there was 97 Formulas made in 2000. Couldn't tell me how many were autos, at least give me a little more detail.

In any case, we have a very rare, very unheard of, fine Fbodies!

I know I've been off of the LS1Tech radar for some time now but I'm surprised I'm not on here! geez!!!

2002 NHRA coupe M6 - Ebony interior. She is still sitting a garage in the Chicago suburbs collecting dust. When I was home for two weeks on leave last week I just passed 13,500 miles on the clock. The nice thing is to I just finally paid her off so she is completely mine now! I just got a brand new 2007 Toyota Tacoma double cab Offroad edition truck as my daily driver and tow vehicle, and have been spending some time and money outfitting her. Does anyone else feel like they are neglecting their other car when they do this??? I'd look at my NHRA sitting there in the garage and actually feel really bad that I was taking my truck out and working on it instead of the bird. Weird I know...

An Old pic but its the only 'recent' photo I have. This was right after getting the WS9 hood painted and mounted for those scoring at home.
