It's that time of year again! Our engines have been put on sale! Any stroker engine purchased will include FREE truck freight shipping within the continental United States. So, this does not include the stock-stroke engines (i.e. 347, 364, 376, etc.). The free freight will include both short-block and long-block engines. As of this morning, we have THIRTY short-blocks in stock! The ones on the shelf include 408 iron-blocks, 402 LS2/L76, 454 LSX, 427 LS7, and 418 LS3. We have them with varying components, depending on what you will need for compression ratio, if a power-adder will be used, etc. If any of our in-stock short-blocks will not work, we can start a build for you immediately! We keep rotating assembly components and blocks in stock, so most builds could be started the same day the order is placed. Some specialty items, such as an LS7 long-snout crankshaft, will be a special-order item. All prices listed on our website will be for any engine of that configuration, regardless if it is in stock or has to be built.
Do NOT listen to those that say an in-stock engine is a "cookie cutter" engine. Every engine is built with the same, stringent processes. You do NOT give up quality with quantity when you have the proper people and machinery in place. Every engine is setup with certain criteria in mind, and if any in-stock engine does not fit your needs exactly we can start a build for you. We have the ability to stock engines to help reduce the wait time for customers. They are not intended to to be a perfect fit for every customer, just the majority of the customers that do purchase engines.
Be sure to check out the upcoming December issue of Vette Magazine for two, two-part stories on a TSP 418 LS3 and TSP 454 LSX long-block with engine dyno results! Each article will give customers an excellent idea of exactly what goes into the machining and build process of every TSP engine.
Let us know if anyone has any questions or concerns. We will be glad to put an itemized estimate together for anyone and e-mail over so you can see exactly what is included! If you send in or purchase all of your covers, oil pan, windage tray, etc., we can break in and engine dyno your engine for an additional $1,000. We have a SuperFlow 902 engine dyno in-house.
Thanks!
Trevor

I'm interested in a 416-418 LS3 short block. I have a few questions:
- Is there any kind of warranty with the short block? (N/A only)
- Do you hone everything on the block to make it "true"?
- Do you provide a build sheet that shows all the specs of my custom built motor (blueprinted)?
- On average if you have to build it, about how long to complete? (from order to delivered)
- Do you replace the cam bearings?
- What brand 4" crank, pistons, rods , bolts and bearings do you use?
- About how much for a 416-418 LS3 short block for N/A?

Can I get an estimate for a 402 long block for light n20 (150-200 shot) usage? (whatever parts you recommend...)

-There is not a written out warranty since we are not doing the install or the tune. Since we do not warranty anyone else's labor, we can not warranty the short-block that someone else is putting together and tuning.
-We do hone the bores with a torque plate and hone the mains as well.
-We definitely can get you a build sheet for your specific motor. Just be sure to ask your saleman to be sure include it.
-Right now we are 3-4 weeks roughly on build time on a new build.
-New cam bearings are installed.
-Callies crank and rods are used with Wiseco pistons and Total Seal stainless/napier ringset. We can go with GM or ARP main studs as well. All freeze plugs, oil restrictor, and oil galley plugs are included as well.
For guys wanting quotes, PM any TSP sales person with the details of your build and we will get back to you with pricing!
Thanks!
Jon

So I can drop over $5,000 on a short block and I'm on my own with no warranty?
I thought I read in one issue of GM High Tech (stroker issue) that companies offer somekind of warranty? I take it you guys weren't in that issue.

I guess you werent in the common sense issue...
You cant expect a company to offer a warranty when they have NO idea of whos doing the install work. It has nothing to do with their confidence in their build. Think of it this way, do you ask for a warranty for each individual part when you purchase a rotating assembly? they are simply installing components and offering an alternative to you having to assemble it yourself as a reputable company. (and at a great price I might add)

I guess your wrong, I found that issue and some companies do offer warranties on their short blocks.
In the NOV 2008 issue of GM High-Tech Performance there is an article about "22 Stroker Short Blocks under $6,000."
On page 49, Texas Speed & Performance is listed and it says:
- Warranty 30-Day (plus manufacturers' warranty on components)
Flipping through the pages, some companies don't offer any warranty and some up to a 3 year, unlimited mile warranty.
Sure I can understand in some situations why you wouldn't want to warranty an engine due to some people not knowing what they are doing when installing and tuning it, but if the engine burns more oil than the USA and/or spins a bearing, thats the customers fault? That would be a build issue not an install issue. There are ways to tell if a customer or shop is at fault by checking certain things on a short block/oil.
I'm not saying that most engines built are bad, 99.9% are good, its that .1% that I would worry about. Drop $5k on a short block and its possible to have issues and then when you talk to your engine builder that didn't offer a warranty, your screwed, not a good way to back up your work.
There have been dozens upon dozen of posts made on this forum about people having the above issues and the engine builder doesn't want to help or take care of the problem.
I'm not saying that Texas Speed is like that in anyway (actually I hear good things about them local guys and online), but some people do have issues and the customer usually gets screwed.
I'm in the market for a 416-418 LS3 short block. I won't buy from a company that won't put some kind of warranty in writting. Yes that will probably limit me to a handful of shops and probably pay extra $$, but having that piece of mind that if something does go wrong the first 3-6 months or 2-3k miles and it's not my fault, the shop will make it right.

I help people with LS1's........
Hey Texas Speed, you got my attention - I'm looking into an LS3 block myself this winter. I'm looking through your web-page for a build and pricing now, and since i'm no engine builder I have a dumb question.
Under the selection for pistons they all have a neg cc number listed (ranging from -2cc through -26cc).
Is that the valve relief volume?
or how much the piston is coming out of the hole?
or something else?
Also, I assume you'd be willing to install and degree the cam if one is ordered from you at the time of the engine build?
Lastely, about how much of a discount from the listed price if paying by cashiers check?
Thanks!
- Mike

That is the valve relief or valve relief/dish in the piston. The -2cc or -3.2cc pistons are flat top pistons with valve reliefs were the larger cc numbers are dished pistons with reliefs. We can also install and degree a cam in if you would like. That's not a problem at all. As far as savings on a cashier's check, it just depends on the total on the invoice. Basically it saves you the credit card processing fees.

Welcome back. I sent two emails last week to you and Trevor. I called but your phone message said you would be closed for lunch. I wanted to know the configurations of the 408 LQ9 iron short blocks you have in stock (dish size, bore, crank and rod type, balancing, etc). I know I can custom order, but when you wrote you have 30 short blocks I wanted to know what was in the mix for the iron blocks. I'm looking to build with some additional boost.
