Default installing rear view miror with temp readout on a fbody

i was wondering if any1 had istalled a rear view mirror on a fbody i have one that came out of a 08 sierra and want to know what is needed. i know i need the ambient temp sensor, i have the schematic and shows pins to power and ground, but will it work if not connected to the bcm? schematic shows it somehow goes to bcm wondering if that is only for the onstar?

Does the mirror have map/courtesy lights in it? If it does then the BCM connection is probably for controlling those lights just as it is in our cars. The f-body mirror harness has three wires - dark blue with white is courtesy light power from the BCM, white is courtesy light ground from the BCM so that it can control the theater dimming effect, and black is an ordinary ground for the map lights. You will probably have to provide an additional ignition-controlled power wire for the temp display as well as the sensor leads.

Was the theater dimming effect an option, or was it standard in all of our cars?

I'd think it would be alot simpler to use the setup out of an earlier model like a 99 to 02 silverado or sierra.

Gentex is the company that makes these mirrors for GM. They dont sell them directly, but eBay is your friend.

They have some nice ones. Personally, I want a combo of the auto dimming, map lights, and compass (this one).

You can buy them brand new, with full install kit.

Gentex's official distributer is Mito Corp. You can purchase mirrors directly from them with a full factory warranty. I know because I bought one and had to return it three months later due to the auto-dimming failing - they sent a brand new mirror immediately and it has worked fine for five years now.
