Default Stereo Questions

After reading through Whitebird's Monsoon FAQ sticky, I still have a couple of questions.

I'm planning on installing a Sony XAV-70BT 2-Din CD/MP3/DVD as my head unit, but I'm still undecided on speakers. All I know is, I want everything Monsoon out of the car. That includes all stock speakers, amplifiers, etc.

Ideally, I'd like to run two sets of Polk component speakers in the doors/sail panels powered by a decent 4-channel amplifier. I'll replace the rear 4" filler speakers with Polks also but likely just power those from the Sony head unit since I'm not expecting much from these speakers.

I'll also be adding a subthump stealth box with an undecided sub and amp combo down the road.

I suppose the major question I have is, with the setup I listed above, WILL I NEED TO RE-WIRE THE ENTIRE CAR???

If you stay with the Stock Amp ( which many people do ) then no. If you are going with an aftermarket Amp then I would. Do you have Per Amp outputs on the back of your Sony?

Not the entire car, just all the stereo stuff.

I was hoping this wouldn't be the case.

Cant I tap into the rear filler speakers for my sail panel components and just replace the ac delco amp with the aftermarket amp?

I haven't purchased it yet, but here are the specs.

No, the Monsoon amp is a proprietary design that you can't just replace with any aftermarket amp unless you rewire. It produces 8 channels of filtered output from four channels of speaker-level input. Besides, why would you even want to? If you plan to use your own amp, you will want to use the pre-amp (RCA) output from the head unit to feed clean signal to your amp. And then you will need to wire four channels (not eight) of output to go to the crossovers for your component sets.

Yes you have what it looks like 6 Channels of Pre Amp (RCA) outputs. In which case if you are going with an aftermarket amp you will need to re wire everything. You can probably a local Car stereo shop to do this for you. Most shops will want from $100 to $150 for the labor. I myself installed a Sony HD radio and went with the stock Amp, it is a pretty good amp if you don't want to add those Big Thump subs in the back.

I didn't even take into account the RCA's. I'm not very familiar with the Monsoon stereo system. I've always done all of my car audio work myself, with the exception of tuning the amp (have a buddy that works at a car audio shop). Looks like I'll have to rewire like stated.

Any good write ups on how to remove the door panels? That is the part that makes me the most nervous. Also, I'm planning on using sound deadening material on both door panels/sail panels, any issues I should expect to run into?

I removed all the old wiring and old speakers and old amp and head unit when i did mine.

Since i have a 6 channel pre-amp rca on the head unit, i have 4 going to the rear 4 channel amp i put in to handle the two subs in the sail panels and 2 4"speakers in the rear. I have the other 2 pre-amp going to a 2 channel amp up front for the 2 woofers in the door and 2 tweeters i mounted.

edit: I didn't write up much about the door because there isn't much to say about it. Unscrew the screws, pop it out of place (it's mostly a snap in place item) and be careful about unhooking the door lock and getting it around the door handle when removing. Wasn't too bad. Getting to all the wiring was much more time consuming as i didn't want to just leave all the wire sitting in the car.
