| Finally ran the 2007 M6 in my town For the past year or so I've seen a black M6 cruising around my area every week or two but I'm almost always in my daily driver when I see him. Last night I decided to go out for a cruise because I hadn't driven the Z28 in a while and as I was going past the gas station near my house, I saw him getting ready to pull out. Sure enough, he pulled out the way I was going towards the two lane highway and we both got caught at the light for the turn onto the highway.
As I got next to him at the light (he was maybe late 40s early 50s) he looked over grinning and pointed forward towards the turn onto the highway. I rolled my window down and he followed suit, then asked ME if I wanted to run em. Hell yeah, I did. The light turned green and we took the turn. I wasn't sure if he was gonna honk so I held out first gear and we both kind of rolled into it right at the top of first. We both went WOT as I shifted to second and I got a little sideways right next to him because it was cold as hell. But as soon as I caught traction I started pulling. I hit third and put a car on him, then ran through half of fourth and put another half car or so on him.
I slowed up a bit as we caught up to a car in front of us and let him pass then got behind him. He punched it as I was dropping gears and we both went WOT again with me right behind him. I took it to high in 5th, about 135, and was reeling him in just slightly when we both let off again. I went by and he had a big smile on his face and was literally shaking a thumbs up at me.
We ended up both taking the same exit and getting caught at a light. We rolled the windows down and I asked what year. He said 2007 and then with a very surprised look on his face goes, "What do you HAVE in that thing?" I told him heads and cam and he very seriously goes, "That's a FAST car". I really don't think he expected to lose when he asked if I wanted to run em. The guy was cool as hell, though, and I'm hoping to run into him again and get a chance to talk because I think he lives right near me somewhere. Fun times.

| Well I think he knows that he would have been pulled (fairly hard) as speeds increased, but they didn't. So good kill OP

We don't know if the guy knows what the hell he's doing in the car. Maybe his car didn't downshift to the appropriate gear because he was in a bad spot for the auto. Plus with my gearing and MUCH lighter weight, there's no reason I shouldn't have pulled him down low and even up into the triple digits. I'm pretty sure these things aren't trapping 117 bone stock and DEFINITELY not at the shitty, slow track I run at.
I'll be the first to agree that over 150 he probably would have started pulling back and would have definitely pulled hard where my car tops out, but I also know that I had it up to 155 the other day and it was still pulling strong with two people in the car. If I get a chance to talk to him, I'll get more details for you but by you saying it's a little far fetched, it's like you're saying I'm a liar, and whether you choose to believe it or not, that's how it happened. I think my credibility in this Street Racing section is pretty solid. Quote:

I have a feeling over 150 it would have reversed but we only took it up to about 135 or so and we started at very low speeds where my car pulls hard because of the gearing. I've also got a pretty significant weight advantage. I've never seen an M6 trap what my car does in the 1/4, especially considering I run at a slower track and would pick up a couple mph at a better track like Etown or Atco where the magazines tend to do their testing.

| Good point - you trap 117mph at your track and the M6 SMGs (was it an SMG or 6m??) will trap at that speed or a tad higher under ideal conditions.
I am a little surprised you were reeling him in while in 5th gear but then again, there are several big factors.
Nice kill!!

Nice kill!! | Yeah, I was a little surprised myself but fifth gear pulls hard in this car. Keep in mind the 4.10s and GTO trans with shorter gears, so fifth is nothing like in a stock Fbody or even one with steeper rear gears only. The only LS3 Vette I've run (A6) we ran it up to 140 which is top of fifth and even though he slowed my pull in fifth, I was still inching away at that point and pulled a bit harder on him down low, which surprised me because the Vettes are very aerodynamic up top. I would actually like to see an A6 LS3 Vette run an SMG 7 M6. That would be a sick race judging from my runs with each car.
And yeah, it was the SMG 7. I asked him as I was pulling away from the light whether it was a manual or not and he said no.

You know of bone stock M6s that run consistent 11.7s with 117 traps at a shitty track? I've seen 114-116. If you can show me some examples, I'll gladly entertain your statements but until you do, I put about as much credibility into your statements as you seem to put into my threads.

| M6s have trapped 116-118 but not consistently, he would have yanked you from a higher roll though. Those cars are highway animals, 200mph top speeed! Good run though and very believable, your story was what i expected before i opened the thread. |
