Was taking a buddy for a ride tonight on 45 and launched on the feeder around 50mph and ran onto the freeway, passing a brand new 2010 GT500 mustang. Let off around 130, and he flew by me shortly thereafter.
Got over the next hill, and lined up, he got the jump, and ran to about 120 and he had about a fender on me....
Lined up again over the next hill, I got the jump, missed a gear, got back in it, and was pulling on him from 100-130...with about a fender lead on him, then shut down....Nice looking car, same color as mine with white racing stripes ... paper plates. That thing was very fast for a stock car and very quiet! I was quite impressed. I had a passenger that weighed about 250 (and im at 265) and the guy driving the mustang was about 200 i figure...
I went and looked up the car, and it has 540 HP from the factory with 510 TQ. Car weighs 3950 (plus driver- around 4150 raceweight) . I figure about 460 RWHP... Mine has 400 RWHP and 400 RWTQ with 3250 Weight (plus an extra 510 with me and passenger around 3750 raceweight) ...so Based on those figures, it seems like it is a driver's race from there, which is exactly what it turned out to be!
Although the sticker on those cars is 46K for a mustang...would much rather have my vette for that price!

Nice races. The new GT500s are no joke in stock form (not that the old ones were...). I could pull a bit on the older ones but I have a feeling the new ones will be a REALLY good race for me on the highway. I can't wait to run into one.

Has anyone run a good time yet with them? If what you say is true, that it has 70 rwhp more than the previous car and I don't think I've seen one run a better time or mph yet...

Off topic... I think I came across you one night on 45S a couple of months ago. It coulda been someone else but I remember a C6 I at first thought was a Z but just had a fat ass rear. I threw a rev but you didn't seem interested, though the road wasn't exactly open either.

Mine has the full wide body kit, not just the rear. Probably wasnt me.

I didn't know jack about the new gt500kr so I checked it out...
I stopped researching when I came across its $80k price tag, yikes.
I decided to double check my classic car pricing books, but apparently Shelby forgot that the original '68 gt500kr was nearly the same price as the normal '68 gt500.
That aside, $35k for "unique suspension tune, throttle calibration, CAI, revised exhaust, 3.73's, CF hood, and bigger brakes" sounds a bit steep...
Looks to me like Shelby is just selling one of his badges again, and at a serious premium.
I also noticed that the original gt500 and gt500kr had optional automatics, on a side note.
Great story and nice kill. With a few bolt ons that GT500 will be over 600 RWHP and be a force to be reckoned with. Weight is a huge factor. I have yet to have a stock GT500 give me a scare.

I had one scare me. I thought he was going to wipe me out when he spun and nearly lost it. He did feel pretty bad when he was a few cars back when the race ended. Pretty sad for a car that at the flywheel has about 65 more HP. He was a douchebag so he got what he deserved. It was UGLY for him. It was funny to me.

I've got to agree with you guys it is rare to see a good driver in one of those cars. Either they are really hard to drive or the owners are real tools. Probably should have made an auto and we would see better numbers.
