I see what your saying. Yeah some people do get butt-hurt when they see cars in high DA go a full second slower than usual!
What were you running? Don't tell me the 'Busa?
No...my Benz. He ran an 8.3x and I ran a 8.1x. It was my first run of the day and the first time back to the track since I replaced the IC pump in my car. I was paying too much attention to getting the launch rpm right and missed the light.
Nice try at making a valid point by using extreme sarcasm, but....FAIL!
Just a waste of bandwidth, that's all.
And why are we talking about Motor Trend?? Do you have the issue with the yellow ZR1 on the cover? That's my favorite.
So instead of having a valid argument all you do is say fail? Seems to me that NHRA is with me on this one so is the most of people who posted it here. And instead of having a civilized conversation why act so arrogant? I have a 700hp twin turbo Corvette. Jon has three Corvettes and each of them are worth way more than a ZR1 (numbers matching 427, number matching 396, and a SCCA national winner). But you don't see us calling other people fail, or general disrespecting just because your kind of car lost to a lesser car. Great way to represent the Corvette crowd as if we don't have enough names already (penis enlargement, mid life crisis, poor man's Ferrari comes to mind)
You whole argument previously has been driver can't drive. If driver is not considered as part of the condition of a race, we might as well let robots drive. Also regarding they didn't leave at the same time, look at the slip that was posted in the video. The Van had a reaction time of .260 and the ZR1 .800. That was .54 second difference like blink of an eye.
The track prep was just crappy during Midnight Mayhem, it was a street car event with lots and of lots amateurs. We are talking no track prep what so ever, and dragging water all over the track. It's not like a Test N Tune or a major event that they lay VHT or you get to run behind a funny car with new rubber on the groove. There just isn't any traction. A car that does 9.5 in a prepped track here in Vegas was doing 10.5 at the track that day. A car that can 1.3 60" during Test N Tune will only do 1.6 60" during midnight mayhem. So remember it's not just the DA, slick track makes any driver look stupid. You can peddle the car only so much.
On a prepped track, the kid with the ZR1 would have a very good chance of winning the race. But then we would have brought a different car, like a twin turbo Vette or the Camaro with 101mm turbo.

WIN is a WIN
thats all this entire story is reflecting upon! countless times cars that should have won did not due to a circumstance, does that make the race irrelevant?
THE BIG ASS TYPHOONexpress VAN GOT TO THE STRIPE FIRST,thats all!
We have a Video of the Van killing the ZR1
We have a Video of the Van killing the ZR1 at a 1/4 mile track

Yes the Van KILLED a ZR1, that black ZR1
But do you have a video of your 4X4 killing a ZR1 in the rain? Because if you don't, that's just flat out ridiculous. That's ricer sh-t.
Keep repeating that mantra and maybe you'll get others to believe it!
Do you know the ZR1 driver? I bet he was more concerned with learning how to drive his car than the VAN in the opposite lane!
I'm sure if he KNEW that he was ACTUALLY going to race a twin turbo AWD van, he would have handled that race differently.
Thats even funnier....you think that flares are done for looks? lol...real flares are done out of need. You see, in the 60's, when your racing your then new vette, and need more traction, you quickly realize that aint happening unless the fenders are bigger.....and viola, flared fenders. I love the silver 64, and out of the 100000 people that have seen the car, your probably the first thats said they didnt like it( I commend you for that, as there were probably some that had thoughts right..)....I can live with that, since Im not trying to make everyone else happy. Ive been stopped on the street numerous times, for pictures, questions , comments, and even movie producers wanting to use it in film. I ve had the 65 396 and 66 427 cars for years, and they are pretty much undrivable, and too valuable. But a flared ex race car....you can swap in a fi lt1 and t56 and actually drive the piss out of.
Just like why would someone chose a van over a vette...well the simple answer....families. I have several vettes, which is cool cause I can let a friend drive one to a show while I take one, each with one of the kids with us, or my wife can take one and I take one and she isnt stuck all day, or my daughter....
But the rest of the time, we can take something like the van to the track on a friday night with 5 guys in it, saturday morning its at the airport picking people up, make a stop at costco for refrigerator for a rental property, saturday afternoon its taking a group of 6 year olds to a movie, and saturday night taking 3 couples out to dinner while the kids are with a sitter. Did you even want to park a zr1 at the movie theater, or a casino parking garage? or make 5 trips to the airport getting one person at a time?
If you have people.....and you can only have one vehicle that your gonna keep.......it would be a 12 sec van.
Besides we ran out of other stuff to turbo.
I never stated that I didnt know what the flares were for. I do
You and I just think differently. I'd rather have a new CTS-V to haul my family and friends in. Although granted I don't think 5 grown guys would be that comfortable.
You have a GREAT stable, even with the van!
I was just suprised that someone who's as well spoken as yourself and is obviously successful, would SERIOUSLY call than a ZR1 kill.
