I am having some trouble getting the rear end centered under the car and wanted to make sure my thinking was correct before I do anything to cause more problems. First off it is not so bad that I can’t live with it but would just like for it to be right. about 7-8 years ago I slid across 3 lanes of traffic and hit a tree with the passenger side of the car. Hit a curb with the rear wheel. Got the car back after about three months in the shop. Had Hotchkis LCA’s and Adj. Panhard rod installed. Have had no problems other than the rear has never been centered under the car. For the past month have been rebuilding the front end and thought what a good time to get the rear end centered. First off, making the PH shorter should push the rear to the passenger side, correct? So took out driver’s side of rod to make shorter and couldn’t cause the threaded side of the rod was hitting the bushing on the inside. Which is strange cause there was almost 3/8 to a ½ inch of thread left. You would think they would make it to where you could use all available thread. So took out the rod and cut some of the threads off the end so I could make the rod shorter. Got it all back in and I guess couldn’t make the rod short enough, so rear is still kicked out towards the driver’s side. My next idea to fix this, short of buying another PH, could you cut the rod and weld it back together with a steel sleeve welded over the cut and it still be strong enough for the occasional trip down the strip and some street use. I would still have adjustment the other way just in case I cut the rod to short. Was thinking about ½ to an 1” should do. Also should I do this before the front end alignment?
BlackScreaminMachine is right on the money. You can try to shorten yours although i would adviced against it. Our new bars are not very expensive and should provide you with enough adjustment to get the body recentered. I would chek to make sure that no bracket or frame rail got bent when you got in the accident. We offer several different styles to choose from and our bars are on car adjustable. Give me a call if you have any questions.
Got the new Panhard Rod and it got the rearend centered under the car. Finally after 7 years. Thanks Dennis, great product. Was a little worried at first cause I didn't have much adjustment left, but it turned out great.
I would still take a good look at the passenger side PHB mount it's probably still bent a little towards the drivers side; probably where it mounts to the car body.
