Major Malik Nadal Hassan is apparently the shooter who was killed along with two un-named others who I beleive are in custody.

This is a very sad event. My thougths and prayers are with all those involved and their families.

There is a thread in the Military section as well. I kept it updated while watching the live news feed as best I could.

just saw 12 dead 31 wounded.

They said the main shooter was armed with 2 handguns. No way 2 hand guns could do that much dammage that quick. There has to be another shooter.

Its sad enough these guys were getting ready to go overseas to serve, now that have to worry about getting killed at home.

My thought and prayers go out to the families.

He did shoot for a long period of time & all victims killed were in a confined space. It is possible but there were reports of a second shooter & sounds of a high powered rifle as well. I'd say in the right hands of a experienced soldier 2 handguns could cause some serious damage.

Ever hear of the "Luby's Massacre"? 1 guy - 2 hand guns. 23 people killed - 20 more injured.

I believe our troops should always have our support no matter if we agree or disagree with the politics involved. They should also have our prayers, I know I will be praying for the families of all involved with this. Truly is a sad day...

more info:

NBC News’ Pete Williams reported that U.S. officials identified the gunman as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, said military officials told her that the gunman, who was 39 or 40, was about to be deployed to Iraq and was “upset about it.”

Well I just got home guys, and I am thanking god.

I was supposed to be there today where the shooting was, 4 guys in my unit got shot. One took a round to the arm and is ok, they have not told us anything about the other 3.

On one hand I thank god that I wasnt there, on the other hand I wish I would have been because I feel like maybe i could have done something to save some of the people.

Im very upset right now so this is the only post i will be making about this tonight, thank you sonic boom for thinking about me.
