Default Help please difference between ls1 and ls2

hey a buddy of mine bought a 98t/a guy says he took the ls1 out and and put in a ls2 crate motor no paperwork just his word any way for us to check to make sure.

There are several things to look for, check serial numbers off the intake, head casting number..Does the car have EGR? If this guy dropped a complete LS2 in, there should be no EGR hook up, LS2 heads would have centerbolt covers vs perimeter bolt covers on 98 heads etc..

Well you can look at all of that or you could just see if the cam sensor is on the front timing cover.

also should have knock sensors on front of motor not on top like the ls1.

hey thanks alot guys looks like my buddy got shafted car has egr and he just replaced the knock sensors and they were underneth the intake just like the ls1's. No worries ill cheer him up cause ive seen and done plenty of great things with the ls1.

But you can take all of the old parts off of the LS1 and put then on the LS2 block and it will look like an LS1. Difference would be in the bore of the block
