Default getting the car up in the air

I understand there are jacks can extend and get pretty high. But lets say you are dropping your tranny or something. Instead of putting a piece of 4x4 or 6x6. Is there something you can put between the jack and the car or underneath the jack thats a tad bit more safe?

I just get a come-a-long and get under a tree branch and hook it to the front of the motor and jack it up like that.

oh im not scared of jack stands at all. Im actually incredibly comfortable with jackstands. I just want to be able to get my car up extremely high so i can get them up at the highest level. Its just hard to get the car up that high.
