Default Pilot bearing removal

Trying to replace the pilot bearing and having a difficult time. Rented this (pilot bearing specific) removal tool from Advance and all it did was slide over the bearing ,the jaws on the puller don't grip around the back of the bearing, they just press out on the inside of it. Wondering about the "pack with greese and pressure it out", has anyone had success with that or should I look for another type tool?
Thanks

whatever you do dont pack it with grease if its an LS1. There is a freeze plug in the back of the crank which is what you actually see when you look through the pilot bearing. Its not like a traditional SBC where the back of the crank is solid. We made the mistake of doing the grease method and ended up pushing that freeze plug out of the crank.

Read down to the point where I removed the pilot bearing. That might help. I had the same problem

I took one of those 3 jaw Pilot bearing pullers and modified it to work
