Default Cordless Impacts

I'm looking for a cordless Impact Wrench, 3/8 or 1/2" drive.
I was looking at DeWalt, either the DW057K-2 ( 138ft-lbs) or the high-torque DW059K-2 which has 300 ft-lbs. rating.
I noticed Pep Boys has a 24v Cordless Impact gun for $99, not sure what the tq. rating is on it, only saw a picture of it in thier flyer and it says Goodyear racing on it that's it so I don't know who makes it either.
Guess my question is what kind of min. tq rating should I be looking to get for removing wheel lugs , etc.. ?

i have the 18v 300 ftlbs dewalt and it is the fuggen shizznit

on and off no problem. the ONE thing i kinda dont like is it isnt variable speed, but you get used to it

i would get the highest ftlbs rating you can find just to be safe

I dont work with alot of tools everyday, but most of our techs in the service dept. at work use the Makita (spelling?) 3/8 drive for all the little stuff that they do. I've noticed that they just use air impacts for wheels because you're not dragging hoses against the car like that anyways. They say for larger bolts like wheel lug nuts though, you NEED 1/2"

the makita drills/drivers i have are nice to, i use it for like battery terminals, air boxes, interior small bolts and screws... the bigger electric impact is for seatbelts and seat bolts (the tougher stuff)

I have an IR 3/8 drive and i can take lugnuts off anything i work on with it, and it comes with 2 batts. It was a little pricey but i love it. At home i have a dewalt 18 volt 1/2 drive we use every wekk for our late model stock car at the track and i works great also.

i have a snap on 12v 3/8 cordless impact and i have not had anything that this impact wouldnt take off, even torqued down lugnuts. Rumor has it that snap on now has a 24 volt 1/2" impact. i know i am trading mine in on the new IR cordless with 2 batts, from what i hear it is pretty damn good. Another tech at my shop has a 9.6v makita and his runs right along side my snap on gun. and they cost roughly the same.

I have:

18v Snap On 1/2" Drive - AWESOME - the only power tool snap off got right

14v Dewalt 1/4" Hex Drive - AWESOME - smaller and lighter then the snap on, with less power, but they do the job. I leave one set up as 1/4" drive, one as 3/8"

I have an 18v DeWalt 1/2" drive on order, should have it later this week and will let you know how it compares to the snappy. I am guessing it will be great, and less money then the snappy. I am VERY HARD on my tools, if I tell you it works, it is proven, I drag race for a living, and only use stuff that works well for me. I have had Makita stuff, it just doesn't work well, batteries don't last, and not as strong. I'm sure others have had different opinions, but that is my experience.

What can the Dewalt 18V break loose? I'm looking at one, taking it with me to the junkyards. To help pull stuff apart faster and easier.

Thanks.

I have the IR 3/8 gun, works great. It is variable speed and has a brake, its a little pricey but I like the fact batteries work for all IQV series products, and unlike cheap stuff it has replacement parts available. Can't go wrong with IR stuff IMO. (my air tools are IR as well) i have always been happy with dewalt tools as well.

Snap On 18v 1/2" drive is sweet. I take it to the track with me and use it with the screw jack to change the rear tires. Jacks the car right up, makes the whole deal much easier! Seriously, it can do just about whatever a normal pneumatic one can.

Funny this thread came up. About a month ago I hit a jack pot and found a Dewalt 3/8 and 1/2 at a local pawn shop for $100. Yes, that was for the pair. Needless to say I knocked my Sprite all over the counter trying to get my wallet out so fast. Ever since I don't think my main air compressor has kicked on 1 time. I should have bought these 5 years ago.

I have had the SnapOn 9.6V 3/8" impact for a while, but recently upgraded to the 14.4V 3/8" Magnesium housing gun, and it is def. a huge difference. The older one was good for things in the 30-40lb ft area max. The new one can take lug nuts off that are torqued to 100lb ft. I often pull cylinder head bolts out with it.

I will probably get the 1/2" electric gun next, and if they come out with a 3/8" electric ratchet I will never need an air compressor for normal work.
