Default Garage type thing...

Hi guys i just moved and im needing a place to store my car before winter..

we have this shed barn type thing behind our house which is big enough to fit my car in but one problem. its elevated id say like 2 1/2 3 feet off ground level on sauna tubes. i know theres sauna tubes supporting the outside walls. but for support from the outside in im not sure what there is.

do any of you guys know if it would be safe to use a few concrete deck support blocks underneath the garage to help for support?

and if so do you have any ideas on design for ramps? my car is stock ride height.

thanks in advance

Dunno about ramps, but it's gonna be a mighty tight squeeze though that door!!!

I would not park a car in a building, without a concrete or steel floor.

my old garage used to have a wood floor about the same, it held up but it also had alot more supports under thats why im trying to find out if the concrete support blocks would be strong enough to reinforce the floor. i dont really want to go put any more saunu tubes in.

you gotta get in the crawl space and see what's there. How many months are we talking about? It might be cheaper and safer to rent a storage unit. Ramps strong enough and long enough to support a car for getting into and out of the building could easily run 200-300 dollars in materials alone, plus the work. That assumes the building doesn't need any help. An simply stacking block under the floor for support would be insufficient if no footer is in place. I don't know what storage units are going for, but that might be the cheaper way out.

Or call towing company, load your car onto a roll back..then off load it into your "garage" if the floor is up to the task?

^^^^ he is right, concrete blocks wont support much without a good footer underneath. My dad has a shop that you can park in, but it many footers with support posts and the floor joists are 2x10s. Just supports wont do anything if the floor joists are only 2x4s or 2x6s. A lot of work and money for a couple months, check into a storage unit.

yup I'm building a garage right now for my car... packed ground with a bobcat with gravel and then a 3/4" plywood floor with 2x6 floor joists 1' centered spaces... more then sufficient but its always better to over do it a bit.

2x6 floor joists? I would have gone at least 2x8s.
