1990 Silverado 454SS Regular Cab/ ShortBed
I bought this truck with a broken 454, which prompted me to swap in a 75k mileage 5.3. The original 454's were rated at 220hp and the 5.3 is 295 and it's lighter so it made for a pretty good swap.
Factory options on these trucks:
- Power windows/ locks
- 3.73:1 posi 9.5" rearend
- TH400 transmission
- Excellent bucket seats
Additions include:
-High end Pioneer Premier CD player w/ remote
-MTX amplifier and Polk Component speaker
-Lowered with axle flip kit and front spindles
-Billet "phantom" style grill
-smooth front bumper
-rear axle flip kits (6" drop) with C-notch and air shocks
-front drop spindles (needs lowering coil springs)
The engine swap has approx. 800 miles on it and at the time of the swap it got:
-new single exhaust w/ performance muffler
-AC Delco fuel pump, strainer and filter
-6AN fuel lines
-Bosch o2 sensors
-Delphi MAF sensor
-Motor/ trans oil and filters changed
-Serpentine belt/ hoses
-Cone air filter
The truck runs and drives very well and has a great mellow exhaust tone that's not overbearing. I have driven it around quite a bit and it really is a nice truck, that with a little work could be excellent. It has good power and gets better mileage than the old 454 could have dreamed of.
The final excellent thing about this truck is that it JUST came up from Alabama and it has NO RUST!!. Underneath is beautiful, the brake and fuel lines are beautiful. Every bolt I had to remove came right apart. I can't stress how rustfree it is. NO bad cab corners, NO bad doors...no rust!
Now here are the bads:
The paint SUCKS. It has been keyed, has some small dents/ dings on one bed side and the hood is dented. Has a scrape on the other bedside and just all around needs paint. But remember, the body is rust free so the truck would be an easy paint job. Even the bed could be painted INSIDE and only shows one small dent after removing the bedliner. It wouldnt take much to make this truck look showroom new.
The truck has no overdrive, which is how all of the 90 454SS' were, but it kinda sucks with the 3.73s on the highway. I left all the wiring in it for a 4l60E or 4l80E trans so it would be an easy swap and then this would be a great highway cruiser.
I didnt finish the AC portion of the swap. I will give the bracket info to any potential buyer and then it could have a compressor mounted easily and with some work, could have nice cold air conditioning again.
It has some nasty purple partial window tint that needs removed.
It rides rough right now. It has the nicely done flip kit in the rear to lower it a bunch, but the front only has drop spindles so it sits funny, like a lot lower in the back...sooo it has air shocks on the rear and they are aired up to make it sit almost level. If you installed front drop springs to get the front down, then let the air out of the rear shocks it would ride nice, sit low and look great....easy fix.
I am asking $8500 and will entertain offers. It can cost $4000 just to do these LS engine swaps pretty easily.
