Exclamation Undergoing the same

Hey,

I am about to start a simular project, I have my 79 camaroZ28 and I have my 2002 LS1 From a Rear Ended Trans Am. I am wondering what all i should look out for or forward to in this project. Are there any timesaving or moneysaving tips you could throw my way. Any help you could give me in this to prevent the DOHS!!! along the way would be great.

Thanks
James Cox

The car is beauty.

I just think the economic times are going to ween down the number of potential buyers.

I don't your price is unreasonable.

It just may take a long time to move that's all.

Are there any mods done to motor,or is it stock. Has it ever been dyno'd/tuned...ever to the track ?

As for the price....IMHO 20k seems a bit too much, not saying it's not worth it but in today's market for that body style probably not gonna get it.

However it does look like you've done an outstanding job on the conversion/resto of the car and I wish you the best of luck with the sale.

The engine is stock.

It runs great. The LS1 in a second gen fits perfect.

It's nice running an all alum engine with an overdrive trans.

The only reason I'm selling is because I want to build a 63-67 Corvette.

I sold my 66 Mustang. It was on the cover of the Feb 2008 cover of Car Craft. Feature inside.

My current daily summer driver project is a 98 Wrangler with an LS1/4L60E. Body is just back from paint and the frame is on the way to the sand blaster and then to the powder coat shop.

Thanks again for all the good words in regards to the Camaro.

Thanks for all the great comments.

I would be willing to take $19,750 due to these tuff economic times.

It means if I sell I would be down to three LS powered vehicles.

At least the gas prices are reasonable.

It's kind of funny.

To have a car built like this would be much more than what I'm asking.

I'm not a dealer just a car guy that likes to build something, drive it for a while and then build something else.

Let's run the numbers. I'm in sales so that's what engineering always tells me!

Base car. No rust. No hit 1979 Camaro from Arizona. Contary to popular opinion there are no rust free vehicles in MN. $4000

Low mileage LS1 /4L60E. $3500

Wheels and tires. $2000

Complete front suspenion rebuild with coilovers, AGR steering box, Addco anti sway bars. front and rear. $1500

Rear axle rebuild with 3:73 gears, moser axles and Detroit springs. $1000

C5 brakes all around. Not C4 like base Baer kits. $1000

Interior all new with gauges. Carpet, seats redone. insulation, headliner, no cracks in dash and, and I say "and" the light the says "buckle your selt belt" when you turn the key! $1500

Body work. All panels stripped to bare metal. All plastic stripped to bare plastic. Show qualitiy paint. $7500

Subframe, a-frames, spindles, inner fenders, radiator supports all sandblasted and powder coated. My cost $500. I work for a company that has a powder coat plant. Your cost $1000

Misc parts nickel plated. N/C. We do nickel plate also.

Lot's of stuff I don't tell my wife about like alum radiator, B&M trans cooler, KN filter, stainless braided fuel lines, Spal fan, wiring harness and computer mods, ect. $1500

Total. $24,500

The above does not include labor. I work cheap on my cars.

I'm not whining Ok maybe I am.

Nice ride and very nice work. I think it just boils down to the fact you are in a smaller market with a 2nd gen camaro. IE if someone would of spent an extra $10K for a first gen body and performed the same work/mods it would of likely sold for over $30K rather quickly. Again, nice work! enjoy it!

Thanks again for all the nice comments.

I think the snow will be gone in couple of months with any luck.

Time to get it out on the road.

The first hot rod F body I did was a 72 Trans Am clone. Go look at featured cars on the Car Craft Magazine web site. The red minni tubbed 455 engine one.

It was a great car. The 455 ran great. It could melt the tires at will.

Free bump.

Curious who shot it from Car Craft? They were at my house a couple of weeks after the nationals and mentioned that did not get many features from it.

The Camaro feature or the Trans Am feature? Henry De Los Santos from Car Craft shot the Firebird and John Nelson from Chevy High Performance shot the Camaro. They shot my 66 Mustang at Car Craft also. It was the cover car on Car Craft Nov 2008. Shot by Wes Allison and Doug Glad.

I've been lucky enough to be at the Car Craft Nationals every year.

They shot my 67 Nova but it never made it into the magazine.

I'm finishing my 98 Wrangler with LS6/4L60E combo. I hope it's magzine worthy!
