This post is to gauge interest in my '86 Volvo Wagon converted to a GM LT1 V8 / T56 6 speed. I'd rather not sell it - it's a fun car / family hauler, but the longer I own it the more time I spend on it, and I need to focus on my business. This car is my
daily driver.
I am located in Atlanta, Georgia (Marietta to be exact).
Older photos and Dyno Sheet HERE
The Good:
- '86 Volvo Wagon 740GLE originally a Turbo/manual transmission 151K on the body
- Converted ~'97, '94 f-body LT1 was low mileage according to paperwork 290 rwhp 325 rwtq
- Mechanic/owner who converted the car died (!) and the owner I bought it from drove it sparingly
- I had the T56 freshened in '06
- New clutch kit in '06, new rear main seal
- 1041 3.73, speedo works
- OBD1 Cable to read codes
- MSD Optispark (bullet proof design vs. OE)
- MSD Plug Wires, new plugs
- New Coil
- Trick Flow Air Inlet Elbow
- K&N Air Filter
- OE Floor Mats (were NOS)
- Reman P/S Pump
- NEW Water Pump (not reman)
- Flex-a-lite 150 fan
- Custom Griffin Aluminum radiator
- Tie Rod Ends, Ball Joints
- Toyo T1R Tires/Alignment 03/07
- Pioneer DEH-P980BT CD Player with active XM, Bluetooth (nice with the manual) also has iPod control module
- Airflow body kit, only front section is installed at the moment - kit is white
- Lowering Springs in front, stock wagon springs in the rear
- Dakota Digital Tach converter (tach works)
- Bilstein HDs front/rear, strut mounts with camber mod 07/07
- Converted to Jumbo Brakes: Hubs, Pedal Pads, Wheel Bearings, Master Cyl. Plugs, calipers, etc
- New Oxygen Sensor
- New Converters 03/08: car passes tailpipe emissions
- Interior: front seats recovered, rear covers need to be installed, new carpet
- NEW A/C Compressor (not reman) etc. 06/09
- Tons of extra parts - interior, 960 door handles, etc
- I've kept a log of MPG and the wagon has averaged 16.3 MPG with 99% city driving. I have recorded 20 MPG on a couple tanks that were all highway miles - typically the wagon was loaded down for a family trip.
The Bad:
- New carpet does not fit like it should... ACC replacement carpet is 1 piece - maybe cutting it in to 3 pieces like OE would be better?
- Door panels are rough
- Interior in general is a 5/10
- May need a brake booster
- Temp gauge works intermittently, I think it's a loose wire
- Front of oil pan leaks (have a new gasket)
- The driver's rear window does not go up and down - you can hear the motor turning but the mechanism isn't attached. It was like that when I bought it and I've never tried to fix it.
- Tread depth: with a penny with Lincoln's head upside down the tread comes up to where his hair ends and his head begins
I have 2 yards x 76" wide of the carpet to do the rear of the car, still in the box. I also have an extra yard of the pleated tweed material on the seats to do the door panel cards to match.
The engine bay is dusty and could use detailing, and I do have the red engine covers seen in older photos, I was planning to paint them body color when I painted the body kit. I also have most of the interior parts missing in the photos, in some cases I have multiples, since I have most of another complete tan interior.
The wagon drives very nicely - the exhaust has a muffler before and after the axle so it's quiet inside. 80 miles per hour is only 2000 rpm in 6th gear. I have a spreadsheet listing $13,741.14 invested in this car including purchase price. Supposedly over $30K was put into it in '97 (I have some paperwork from the conversion).
$8500 or best reasonable offer. Please no tire kickers, I really have no time.
