Default Autocross tires vs. 1320 tires - different?

Curious about those of you who do both autocross and the 1320 - do you use the same competition tire for both events? If not, what do you use for each?

Reason bring, I got a set of wheels for autocross that are about to be discontinued....and I'm wondering if I should get an additional set (of rears) for a drag strip setup.

Someone is recommending Toyo RA1's or R888's for autocross. If I go that way, would I want a different set of tires for the 1/4?

I would say so...from what I see most folks use a different tire like a drag radial or a slick...the sidewall flexes more and promotes traction..a autocross tire doesnt flex as much on the sidewall

The biggest difference between a tire that is meant for going around turns and one that is meant for going in a straight line is the sidewall stiffness. You could use a tire meant for handling for drag racing but it would not do as well as a tire meant for drag racing because the sidewall wouldnt "wrinkle" on the launch. And having a really soft sidewall for autox or road racing probably wouldnt be safe depending on how hard you put your car through the turns. However the choice is up to you. Personally i would use a tire meant for auto x for both drag racing and corner carving before i would use a drag tire for both.

the sidewalls on the autocross tires are alot stiffer to prevent roll around corners, where as 1320 tires they "crinkle" so to speak and plant the tire giving maximum grip

Alright, I think it is best to have different tires for each venue - thanks.

So what 1/4 mile tire do you guys recommend in either 275/35-18 or 295/30-18?

well the wider tire is always gonna have a plus due to the fact that the footprint is larger. ive always had luck with the nitto drags, or you can try some bfg's.

Okay, so I think I'm going to use the Toyos R888's for autocrossing only. I'll keep the fronts on for the 1320 but put something else on the back.

Anyone have suggestions for what works well at the drag strip in 275/35-18 or 295/30-18 form?
