Match Made in Heaven

Ask any metal head what their favorite band of all-time is, and many of them will likely tell you Slayer. Ask any muscle car fan what their favorite ride of all-time is, and they'll likely tell you the 1969 Camaro. Put these two things together, and you've got this ratty match made in heaven that we recently spotted over at Hot Rod.

Muscle Obsession

Unsurprisingly, Danny Cruz, the owner of this '69, calls it his dream car. The muscle car maniac also happens to own his own shop called Muscle Mechanix. And that's exactly where the idea for this wild Camaro came to fruition.

Rough Find

The Camaro started life as nothing more than a rolling chassis painted satin black and missing a bunch of parts. But on the plus side, it was rust free, and Cruz could care less that it was missing the engine and transmission.

Reliable Power

That's because he had bigger plans for this Camaro. It was to serve as his daily driver, so he needed reliable power under the hood. And he found that in the form of a 5.3-liter LS from a mid-2000s Chevy truck.

Fun Driver

Being a driver car, Cruz spent most of his effort not on cosmetics, but parts that would make this Camaro more fun to, well, drive. Things like tubular upper and lower control arms, adjustable coil-overs, and a Tremec T56 transmission.

Beefed Up

The engine received the bulk of the attention, however. After getting the cylinders honed, Cruz beefed up the bottom end with Wiseco pistons and SCAT rods. He also added a BBK throttle body, colder spark plugs, and stronger coils.

Natural Boost

These days, it's too tempting not to turbo an LS, so that's exactly what Cruz did next. He added a 78mm Turbonetics huffer, a huge intercooler, and meth injection to ramp up the power to an acceptable and reliable 573 hp and 598 lb-ft at the wheels.

Trouble-Free

With a meager 9 psi of boost, this combination has no problem getting Cruz from point A to point B without any trouble. And in three years of owning it in this configuration, he's racked up 33,000 trouble-free miles.

Coast to Coast

Those miles have come not only from daily trips to and from work but also trips across 12 different states from Florida to California, just because Cruz wanted to see if it could do it.

Long Distance Charmer

It's been a heck of a journey for this Camaro, and it isn't finished yet. Cruz has plans to take it on more trips in the future, where we're sure this heavy metal-inspired muscle car will make plenty of new fans along the way.
