Classic Chevelle Rescued From Collapsed Barn

Heavenly barn finds do exist!

Uncovering the beast!

One of the most revered muscle cars in existence is the Chevelle SS 454. Finding a clean example is nearly impossible unless you are willing to shell out 6 figures for it. Even a project car will cost you a pretty penny as finding an original SS 454 chassis is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

However, sometimes miracles happen, and an amazing muscle car such as a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 is discovered in the wilderness. In this case, this 1970 SS 454 was rumored to be sitting under a collapsed barn in Ohio. After further excavation of the barn, an all original SS 454 was revealed. The owner claims that the car was parked there since 1978 and didn't move since. After analyzing the build sheet, the owner found out that the car was scheduled to be built on January 29, 1970, in Atlanta, Georgia. Originally, the car came with a Z15 SS454 LS5 engine and a Muncie M22 manual transmission. The Chevelle was also equipped with a Positraction rear differential and bucket seats. The car was originally painted Tuxedo Black with white stripes and a black vinyl interior.

The badge says it all!

The Chevelle still proudly wears its SS 454 badging. You did not want to mess with an SS 454 when it came out during the 1970's as it was once of fastest accelerating cars in the world. The heart of this beast is a 454 cubic-inch big block LS5 360hp engine which has a high-lift cam, 10.25:1 compression, and a Rochester Quadrajet Carburetor. The Turbo 400 automatic transmission and 12-bolt rear end complete this classic driveline.

Originality is key

The interior appears extremely weathered, although it is completely original. The original manual transmission cross member sits in the rear of the Chevelle which means that the previous owner knew that his Chevelle will be potentially brought back to glory one day.

Where's the motor?

Unfortunately, the original 454 was removed from the car in the mid-1970's and replaced with a small block. After the small block met its demise in the late 1970's, the motor and transmission were removed from the car and it was parked. Hopefully, the owner can track down the original 454 and 4 speed to bring this Chevelle back to showroom condition.

That's gonna take a lot of cleaning...

Although the car appears rough on the outside, the chassis is fairly solid and will make a great base for a full restoration. After some cleaning up and power washing, this Chevelle should be relatively presentable!

So much potential...

Although this Chevelle is rough around the edges, all of the factory parts make it worthy of sitting in a museum after it is completed with its restoration process. We cannot wait to see what this Chevelle's future holds and hope we are there to cover it!
