The million-dollar obvious question: What is the Hot Rod Power Tour?

Meet Rutledge Wood's 1986 Porsche Carrera

It truly is a thing of beauty. And a lot of what you see here comes courtesy of Randy Allgood from Kenwood Rod Shop who paired up with Rutledge Wood to modify this particular Porsche. Among the major updates made: the guys rid the car of its original air-cooled engine and instead placed a Chevrolet Performance LS3 mated to a G50 transaxle into the rear of the car.

The Hot Rod Power Tour

Every year Hot Rod Network works with Chevrolet to put this tour together and 2019 marks its 25th year. It’s a seven-day, seven-city event that can best be described as a “travelling car show”. This year, some 6,000 vehicles are anticipated to take part in it, with a guesstimated 100,000 spectators expected to check it out. For 2019, the route starts at the zMAX Dragway in North Carolina and ends at Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio.

Wood also brought in Akira Nakai, a world renowned Japanese Porsche tuner, to put the RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF (RWB) touch on the car. For those unfamiliar, an RWB Porsche involves some pretty major body mods, including the cutting of the car’s fenders and adding massive flares, new bumpers front and rear, and attaching some form of crazy looking spoiler on the rear.

What else was modified?

Going back to Allgood and the Kenwood team, they outfitted the vehicle with a brand new KW suspension, some pretty impressive Brembo brakes, gorgeous looking Forgeline wheels and, perhaps a bit obvious here to state, they painted the car a brilliant shade of green too.

What did he do last year

While for 2019 Wood decided to go with a premium sports car out of Germany, last year he went with something completely different, though just as wild looking. For the 2018 Hot Rod Power Tour, Wood was represented by his crew-cab Fundra. Very different looking, but equally as fun to build.
