1. 1996 Firebird Trans Am WS6 Ram Air "Blackbird"

Even without an LS engine under the hood, WS6 Firebirds are still powerful and wildly popular today, thanks to their slick styling.  This advert touted the car's 305 horsepower and Ram Air induction with a bluesy version of "Bye, Bye, Blackbird" recorded just for the ad.  This is just one of those commercials that makes you want to immediately go out and start your V8 to listen to it sing.

2. 1998 Firebird Trans Am "Boo"

The fourth generation Trans Am was an aggressive car, and in 1998 when this ad was made, the LS motor gave power that would frighten most other performance cars. Pontiac played off of that in this classic commercial, perfect for introducing the mid cycle refresh and new motor around Halloween.  The car, forced to stop at a red light, is seemingly agitated and hard to keep still.  Once the driver gives it the gas, stoplights shatter and Pontiac declares that the muscle car does indeed live on.

3. 1966 GTO "Tiger"

Tigers.  They're fast, nimble, and ferocious.  Which just happens to be all the qualities a good performance car has, right?  That's exactly why Pontiac likens the GTO to a tiger in this vintage commercial.  With it's wide track and agility, the GTO was a real animal; don't let that sumptuous interior fool you. And don't let anyone tell you old cars aren't environmentally friendly, this one is powered by raw meat.

4. 1998 Firebird Trans Am "Hungry"

In this unforgettable commercial, Pontiac portrays the new Trans Am as a bit of a cannibal, swallowing what looks like a Ferrari.  After pulling up behind another car, it proceeds to "eat" it, and the animation gives us a tour of the intake, motor and exhaust.  Apparently, challenging other cars to a good old fashioned drag race wasn't good enough anymore.  Between the tigers and Ferraris, it must have been expensive to fuel a Pontiac.

5. 1984 Firebird Trans Am "One of a Kind"

It is hard to imagine what a huge leap forward the Firebird took when the 3rd generation replaced the 2nd in 1982, but this 1984 Trans Am ad does a pretty decent job.  The Knight Rider era car was as modern as the moment, and a serious threat in power and handling to sports cars from Europe at the time, and GM wanted to crow. 5 speeds! Ground effects! Turbo wheels!
