Big or Small?

Back when the 454 was first offered in the C3 Corvette, it created a bit of a problem for enthusiasts. In the past, big blocks were an obvious choice for those seeking extreme power. But this new engine didn't offer much of an advantage over certain small blocks, and it weighed quite a bit more. That is if you opted for the LS5 version of the 454. Step up to the LS6, and the field widened considerably. 

Real Standout

The LS6 brought a healthy 425 hp to the table, which was a nice step up from the LS5's 365 hp rating. And, more importantly, a significant increase over the 370 hp LT1 small block. Still, only 188 of these big block bruisers were built in 1971. Making this stellar example we spotted at Mecum Auctions a real standout.

Top Flight

With a mere 51,035 miles on the odometer, this gorgeous C3 Corvette is one of the nicest you'll ever see, no matter what engine lies under the hood. Thus, it's no surprise that the car has racked up multiple NCRS Top Flight wins in its time on the circuit.

Documented Piece

The big block is, of course, an original, matching numbers lump. And there's loads of documentation to back up this car's claims, including the tank sticker and Protect-O-Plate.

Optioned Up

Even the original black leather interior is in stellar shape. Options inside include a tilt and telescopic column, rear defroster, power windows, and AM/FM radio.

Crowning Jewel

The crowning jewel of this ride is, of course, that killer big block under the hood. It's backed up by an M40 Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission and G81 Positraction rear axle.

Departure from the Norm

On the outside, it's hard to pick a better color for this car than Bridgehampton Blue. It's a nice departure from the typical black, red, and silver cars that seem to dominate the C3 scene.

Sleeper?

The Rally wheels and whitewall tires are likewise a perfect addition for this gorgeous car. They're obviously period correct. But they also help give this car a real sleeper appearance given its performance potential.

Proud Ride

Throw in some T-tops, and you've got what most would call the quintessential C3 Corvette. It's the kind of ride that anybody would be proud to own, no matter what your generational 'Vette preference might be.

Drool Worthy

With a stack of judge's paperwork included and a 1985 feature in Vette Magazine, it's no wonder why people have been drooling over this stunning C3 for years now. And with any luck, we'll continue to do so for many years to come!
