Meat and potatoes

For those who look for the cream of the crop when it comes to a big 12 cylinder naturally aspirated powerplant while staying true to an American brand don't have to look any further. Thanks to Matt and Shane Corish, we now have access to a scratch built V12 LS long block engine displaces 519ci or 8.5-liter putting out 717 horsepower.

What goes into it?

The engine began life as two star-crossed LS1 blocks that were then cut and welded together to bring life to this Frankenstein formation.  The crankshaft and camshaft are custom billet pieces, but the rest of the parts are interchangeable LS bits. The engine also uses factory single pistons, rods, bearings and valvetrains. Matt and Shane knew they needed a great car to the house and show off their creation to the world and the decision was made to fit the monstrous engine into a 1967 Camaro.

Would you buy one?

The thing that really excites us about this is that this isn't a unique one-off project that is an exercise in what would happen if GM produced a 12 cylinder, but a burgeoning business. Matt and Shane started V12LS where the headaches and craftsmanship have already been done so you can just order a custom V12 block casting yourself. The block you see above is just the alpha development mule that the duo made in order to garner some PR with enthusiasts.

This thing is a beast

Shane remarks that they have no doubts about the strength of the cast blocks and would love to see what kind of numbers can be had once someone decides to boost the engine. It's a bit crazy to think of, but he'd love to see someone run 20psi and get the LS to push out somewhere in the neighborhood of a 2,000 horsepower machine. A feature that the models for sale on the site have but this block does not is an option to have larger 4 inch plus bores and will utilize an LS3 style cylinder head. We can't even think of the madness that could be had from someone pushing this powerplant in an even more modified state. The car is already making 400lb-ft at 2,000 RPMs.
