This article applies to the Pontiac Firebird and Chevy Camaro (1990-2015).

Unfortunately, your car's battery will go bad eventually. After years of use, the ability of your battery to hold a charge and power your car's starter as well as accessories diminishes. However, sometimes, your battery can be recharged if you happened to use some of the battery charge while the alternator wasn't active. If a battery charger doesn't revive your battery, then replacement is necessary. Find out how to replace it below!

Camaro and Firebird How to Replace Battery

Materials Needed

  • 10mm wrench
  • 10mm socket, extensions, and ratchet
  • New battery (75)

Step 1 – Disconnect and remove battery

A battery replacement is one of the easiest jobs you can do on a car. First, remove the negative (black) terminal cable by using your 10mm wrench, then loosening the terminal connector and pulling the terminal away. Be careful to not allow any of this to touch metal or the positive connector. Then, remove the positive terminal connector in the same way. Then, remove the 10mm bolt holding the battery down on the battery of the battery tray. You will need extensions to get your socket in there. Then, carefully pull your battery out of the car.

Step 2 – Install new battery

Install the new battery in the opposite order as removal. Make sure you do not stretch any wires or allow negative and positive terminals to touch during installation. Do not over-tighten terminals, and make sure the battery is secure. That's it! You have replaced your battery!
