Tasteful Construction

Restomods have been a thing for decades now, but they just keep getting better. Gone are the days of gaudy wheels and far too much billet trim, replaced by clean and tasteful rides like this 1940 Ford pickup recently featured over at Hot Rod.

Wrench in Hand

The pickup is owned by a fellow named Chris Church, who grew up helping his uncle work on a 1968 Mustang. By the age of 18, he had restored his first vehicle - a 1970 Bronco. But when it came time for him to build a ride for his wife, he turned his attention to this old Ford truck.

Modernize Me

The couple came across the pickup at a swap meet and immediately fell in love with it. And needless to say, they already had a plan for the build before they even brought it home. That plan, of course, involved upgrading everything underneath the truck to modern components.

That plan started with the chassis, a job Church entrusted Schroeder Speed & Custom with. They created a beefed-up frame with a Mustang II IFS, four-link rear, Moser 9-inch rear end, and Slam Specialties SS6 and SS8 airbags.

Rounding Out

Those goodies are supported by 12.9-inch Wilwood disc brakes, two-piece forged VF498 American Racing Wheels, and super sticky Toyo Proxes R888R tires. Which is all fine and good, but Church's next choice will surely stir up the hornet's nest.

Controversial Choice

Instead of sticking with Ford power, Church sourced a Wegner Motorsports–built 376ci LS3 engine fitted with a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger for his pickup. On the bright side, this beastly mill pumps out 935 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque, so you know it's pretty darn quick.

Eye Pleaser

The rest of this old Ford is about as inoffensive as it gets. The original sheet metal is very pleasing to the eye, thanks to a lot of shaving, custom bumpers, and a set of 1939 Ford coupe headlights.

Laundry List

It's virtually impossible to list all the mods done to this Ford's body, but some of the more notable are the one-piece custom front windshield and a big back window from a 1952 F1 pickup. The whole thing is covered in an attractive off-white color inspired by a vintage Porsche.

Stitched Up

The treatment is capped off with a fully custom interior packing lots of leather, carbon fiber, and a pretty stout stereo system. It's safe to say that you'll have a hard time remembering that you're driving a nearly 80-year-old truck when you're behind the wheel of this rig.

Carry On

Since restomods have been around for decades, it's easy to assume that everything you can do has already been done. But as this killer 1940 Ford proves, we've still got a long way to go before we reach that point!
