This 2000 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 is Showroom New!

Imagine being able to walk into a Pontiac showroom in the year 2000. What do you buy? A Grand Am? Bonneville? Maybe the new Aztek? There's only one right answer and that's a Trans Am WS6. And while you can't go back to the year 2000, you can time travel in a sense - because this Trans Am only has 152 miles on it. And it's as close to a showroom new as one could get! The BaT auction for this beauty ended a few days back, with bids reaching $42,250.

A Distinctive Ram Air Snout

The 4th gen Firebird is built off the styling of the 3rd generation but is more muscular-looking. It still came equipped with pop-up headlamps, making it one of the last cars with that feature. The pop-up headlights gave the Firebird a low hood line, making the Ram Air hood more pronounced. It looks like a jet intake or the snout of a wild animal. Besides adding a menacing presence to the Firebird, the Ram Air hood had a purpose. The intake was functional, improving breathing for the LS1 V8 and adding about 20 horsepower.

LS1 Power

The LS1 V8 made between 300 - 330 horsepower with the WS6 package and Ram Air hood, just slightly less than the Corvette. The power difference could be attributed to intake and exhaust plumbing. Or it could be due to GM's unwritten rule that no other car will be as powerful or fast as the Corvette. But while the Corvette made more power, it lacked the throwback muscle-car swagger of the Trans Am.

Inside the Trans Am is Still Brand New

GM cars' interiors of the early 2000s were a mix of odd shapes and indifferent materials. It's not that they were necessarily bad or didn't hold up. But the textures and switchgear just had a Rubbermaid feel to them. But quality aside, this Trans Am is still brand new inside. With only 152 miles on the odometer, it's barely been sat in and probably has that new car smell!

T-Tops Will Always Be Cool

The Trans Am was one of the last cars with T-tops. These removable panels provide the feel of open-air motoring while maintaining the car's structural rigidity. T-tops were first offered in the 1970s when safety regulations threatened the existence of the convertible. They became popular overnight and were offered as an option on just about every two-door domestic car. Eventually, convertibles made a comeback and T-tops disappeared. But no matter what, T-tops will always be cool.

Subdued Pewter Metallic Paint

Painted Pewter Metallic, the Trans AM WS6 looks subdued. From the side, it could be mistaken for a base Firebird or one of the lesser V8s. But this Trans Am's got it where it counts. In addition to the LS1 motor, it comes with a six-speed manual transmission and Hurst shifter. A Torsen limited-slip differential puts the power down and the optional handling package gives it the right kind of moves for running the Tail of the Dragon

Vintage Muscle Car Swagger in a Modern Package

It's hard not to appreciate the 2000 Trans AM WS6. Not just this one, because it has 152 miles on it, but any 4th gen Pontiac Trans Am. The car has the right mix of vintage, "old-school" muscle car swagger in a modern package. It rumbles, shakes, and goes like stink. The styling combines the smooth flowing lines of the late '90s with the aesthetics of 60's performance. It's all but certain we won't see a new Pontiac Trans Am ever again. But once in a while, you can still find one that's like new. This particular beauty was bid up to $42,250 on BaT.
