Virtual Car Show

Even before COVID-19, car shows were facing decreasing attendance in recent years. But they do serve an important purpose, giving automakers a venue to show off their latest wares. Thus, General Motors is launching a virtual auto show of sorts dubbed Chevy MyWay, which allows prospective buyers to scope out vehicles from the comfort of their own couch.

One-on-One Tour

Right now, Chevy MyWay has launched as a pilot program to train the product specialists that will work with customers as they give personalized tours of vehicles. The end result will be very similar to the existing Cadillac Live service once it becomes 100% available in the coming months.

Walking the Floor, Virtually

In addition to these personalized tours, Chevy MyWay will give buyers a "virtual car show" option that will allow them to explore new products the same way they might at an actual auto show. At the same time, the automaker says that real car shows won't be replaced any time soon, as that physical experience remains a critical component of car-buying.

More EVs Coming

At the same time, it's working on this new virtual experience, GM also announced that it is accelerating its development of new electric vehicles, too. The automaker was somewhat coy as to what that will actually entail but did say that it would release more information at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which takes place this week.

Coming Soon

Chevy Bolt sales have been rather encouraging recently, jumping 26.4% in 2020. Meanwhile, the new 2022 Bolt EUV compact SUV is on the way, sharing the same architecture as the existing model. Both of those models will launch this summer with GM's lauded Super Cruise hands-free driving technology.

Electrified Future

Chevrolet is also getting four new BEV vehicles based on GM's Ultium battery system in the coming years, which includes a pickup, compact SUV, and two other unnamed models. Currently, most expect the pickup model to be an electric version of the Silverado, which could do battle with the Ford F-150 EV due in mid-2022.

Coming Soon

Those models will join the Hummer EV pickup, which is due to launch this fall, as well as 30 new EVs that GM has promised to bring to market by the year 2025. That will include an SUV version of the Hummer, which is expected to be revealed very soon following a series of teasers by the automaker.
