The joy on this man's face was worth countless Corvettes. Welp, my faith in humanity has been restored for today.

You can't blame him

Larry Webb has loved Corvettes for as long as he can remember and you can't blame the guy one bit for it. Sadly, Larry has been diagnosed with aggressive bile duct cancer with Chemotherapy and other treatments failing to be fruitful. The family was understandably distraught and was intent on just spending as much time Larry as they could.

A question we all were asking

One day at the hospital Larry looked at his son's wife and had one simple questions that any auto enthusiast would have grinned at: "When do I get to see the new Corvette C8 on the road?". Sadly, when the estimated time of spotting one in the wild was given to him he knew he wouldn't likely be around. Larry's son said that the look in his father's eyes upon hearing the news just ate him up inside.

A dream come true

So Larry's wife reached out to GM and the folks at the Midway Chevy dealership to see what could be done. What did end up happening was that larry became one of the few folks outside of GM to see the new C8 while the rest of us were busy speculating and scratching our heads.

Larry and the missus looking great

How early was it? Well, early enough that the version he saw was a pre-production model with some bits that may or may not make it to the assembly line. Midway Chevy held a private viewing for Larry and his family to attend where he could see the car in person and even sit in it. The car wasn't meant to be driven so unfortunately Larry didn't get a ride in it but he was happy nonetheless.

Hats off to everyone who made this possible

This was all done as a surprise that Larry had no idea what was going on until he walked into the dealership that night. Before seeing the cover being pulled off the C8 Larry was greeted by his friends and family in what would be one of his final times where he was able to go out into the public.

It's all about family

Larry got seat time in the upcoming supercar as well as a decent amount of Corvette swag and a special commemorative coin that attendees of the press unveiling received.

Things like this remind me that cars are more than just 0-60 times, they're bridges, connections, translators and priceless gifts like the one shared between a father and his family. From all of us at LS1Tech, we''re thinking of you, Larry.
