Holy Smokes It's the 2022 IMSA Special Edition C8 Corvette!

GM has entered the chat with a hump day surprise that none of us saw coming, a new special edition of the C8 to look forward to. The announcement of the new 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition comes with Corvette Racing currently leading the Teams category in the IMSA GTLM class after just two races.

Gotta go fast

After an amazing inaugural year for the C8.R with the Corvette Racing Team winning the manufacturers', drivers', and team titles in the IMSA sports car championship races. Those beautiful, blazing yellow C8.R models were the inspo for this aggressive appearance package we see here. “Racing has been part of the Corvette’s DNA from nearly the beginning,” GM sports car racing program manager, Laura Klauser, said in a statement. “Both the Corvette Stingray and C8.R have seen tremendous success capitalizing on the benefits of a mid-engine platform – and we’re just getting started.”

Decisions decisions

GM is offering two choices for color combinations (Accelerate Yellow & Hypersonic Grey) and each one comes with special exterior Corvette Racing graphics. The Accelerate Yellow version will come with a gray graphics package while the Hypersonic Gray will come with a yellow accent graphics package. The new IMSA special edition will be based on the top shelf 3LT trim level with the box checked for the Z51 Performance Package.

Dress for the job you want

The models will also get the exterior changes of a large rear wing and side mirrors in Carbon Flash, yellow brake calipers, Black Trident wheels featuring "Corvette Jake" on the center caps, black rockers, and splash guards. The inside color spec will follow that of the corresponding exterior paint choice with a two-tone scheme, yellow seat belts, and a C8.R Special Edition numbered plaque. The GT2 seats are standard but you can opt for the more fitting Competition Sport buckets if you're feeling saucy.

But wait, there's more

As mentioned previously, only 1,000 examples of these cars will be built and will be exclusively for the LHD markets. The IMSA edition will be offered as a separate equipment package and will tack on nearly 7 grand to the price of a 2022 3LT Z51 C8. Oh, and as a special bonus, there will also be a custom-fitted indoor car cover that will be rendered to the appearance of either colored race car chosen.
