Wicked Build

Katech Performance built its first 1,000 horsepower C7 ZR1 roughly two years ago, and it's still cranking out seriously fast cars to this day. Case in point - this new customer build, featuring the company's Stage 3 kit, which enables it to make four-digit horsepower at the wheels and sound wicked in the process.

Serious Hardware

This particular car dyno'd at 1,022 horsepower, to be exact, which it achieves by using E85. On regular fuel, the combo produces around 850 horsepower, which is still healthy. It is packing some serious hardware to generate those figures, however, which are outlined in the video.

Max Effort

That includes a "max effort" PDS cam and American Racing long tube headers in addition to a host of components including CNC ported heads that have been decked and given a valve job, an ATI supercharger pulley and damper, Katech ported supercharger, and 112mm throttle body, and much more.

Laundry List

The upgrade list goes on and also includes ARP head studs, Katech valve seals, PSI valve springs, Katech spring retainers and locators, Trend pushrods, and all the components present in Katech's Stage 1 and 2 kits, including upgraded spark plugs, a ported throttle body, and upgraded intake.

Wild and Tame

Katech's Stage 3 C7 ZR1 kit includes all of this and more, plus installation, for a retail price of $15,999. Not a bad shortcut to serious power, and as we can see in this video, the combination is also quite tame under normal driving conditions, which is rather nice.

OEM Feel

Until you smash the go pedal, Katech's C7 ZR1 is actually pretty OEM feeling, in fact. It doesn't buck or surge, and you can casually accelerate when you're not trying to blow someone's doors off. And that's key for most owners that want a car they can actually drive around town - not just rip down the drag strip.

Total Package

In that sense, Katech's State 3 kit certainly seems like a great way to go. 1,000 wheel horsepower is more than enough to have fun on public roads and run some impressive times at the track if you so desire. And you can do it all in complete comfort, too.
