The Restomod Path

Half a century after the second iteration of the now legendary Corvette nameplate was introduced to the world, the gorgeous lines of the marvelous sports car are more popular and widely-appreciated than ever. For many, complete nut-and-bolt restorations are the only way to bring these old cars to their glory days. For others, adding modern performance, reliability, and comfort is the path of choice.

NextGen Build

The folks at NextGen Performance have had their fair share of experience working on classic American vehicles. And their work on this 1964 Corvette roadster lives up to their standards, and then some. The key to a successful restomod is to maintain the best elements of each era, both in terms of styling and mechanics. This Torch Red beauty is a great example of bringing the looks of the classic together with modern power and handling.

Another One For Kevin Hart's Collection

Even the interior hasn't been subject to unnecessary interruptions, maintaining its vintage look and feel. It certainly makes sense that the build was purchased by world-famous comedian and restomod enthusiast, Kevin Hart. The nicely-built Corvette features a trusty LS3 mill, which as we all know, fits in perfectly within the structure of the C2/C3 Corvettes.

Adding Performance

NextGen's area of expertise is in the underpinnings, so it helped that the donor '64 Corvette body was already in pretty nice shape. The crew went to work fitting the LS3 and mating it with a Tremec TKO600 5-speed manual transmission. The 525 HP-rated Street Comp clutch kit will ensure the power gets transferred to the 3.36:1 rear end reliably.

Modern Handling

The C2 being in good condition also meant that the chassis didn't need much work other than to be powder coated black. A modern suspension setup replaces the Corvette's original hardware. A Ridetech coilover system provides a significant upgrade in the handling department.

Sitting Pretty

Deceleration duties are entrusted to six-piston and four-piston Wilwood disc brakes at the front and rear respectively. The Torch Red restomod sits nicely on coilovers and the 18×7 and 18×8-inch Weld Miramar wheels. The added width doesn't just help clear the new suspension parts, it also gives the Corvette a beautiful and strong stance.
