This 1991 C4 ZR1 Has Just 776 Original Miles

The C4 Corvette ZR1 is still a great car, even by today's standards, and this one also qualifies as a great value.

Fantastic Value

Among the many special Corvettes produced over the years, the C4 ZR1 remains one of the least appreciated. But it's also one of the coolest, with a Lotus-designed dual-overhead-cam V8 built by Mercury Marine cranking out 375 horsepower. Even by today's standards, this gen ZR1 is a solid performer and a fantastic value. For more proof of that, look no further than this essentially undriven example that recently crossed the block at Barrett-Jackson.

Making a Case

This particular car netted just over $28k at auction, despite having only 776 original miles on the clock. For a car that could outrun cars like the Porsche 911 Turbo and Ferrari 348 in its day, that's pretty solid value. GM also made just 6,939 of these cars, making them somewhat rare. But in all fairness, there are quite a few low-mile C4 ZR1s out there in the world, too.

Buyers Win

That's because the C4 ZR1 was essentially a collector's car from the beginning. Many people bought these cars thinking they could store them away to make a fortune in the future. But clearly, that hasn't panned out too well for them. The winners, of course, are the folks that want to own this cool piece of Corvette history that just so happens to come with a bargain price.

All Original

The winning bidder of this particular car certainly got a great deal. This ZR1 is fully documented from new and numbers-matching. The owner has retained all the original components that came with the car, including the original Goodyear tires. It also comes with the optional acrylic top panel, ZR1 keychain, and commemorative “pizza box” containing video and books.

Plenty of Paperwork

As you'd expect, all of the original factory and dealer labels and stickers are still on the car. The seller also retained the original sales receipt, dealer temporary plate, dealer-supplied leather briefcase with the serial number, all factory-supplied pamphlets, and owner’s manuals.

Good To Go

In addition, the previous owner also performed a slew of maintenance recently including changing all fluids and updating the ignition coils, injectors, headlights, various switches, and tires. Even the seat belt recall from 1991 has been performed, so this ZR1 is essentially good to go in every way.

Making a Case

Perhaps the new owner will drive this ZR1 and enjoy it, or maybe they'll store it away with hopes that the market picks up at some point in the future. Either way, we think they made out like a bandit. Even if collectors haven't come to appreciate the C4 ZR1, its cool history, and solid performance make it a winner in our book.
