Default 12 ton press & t56

Got a few questions.

One, for setting up the play for the t56, the tremec manual shows an endplay tool and a dial indicator set-up.. what did you guys use and where did you get it? The endplay tool and indicator are on pages 42-47 or so.

http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English...ice_Manual.pdf

Next question... I have the HF 12 ton press, and I am wondering again where they get the tools listed in the tremec manual so they can press just on the shaft or have a tube that is only slightly wider in diameter than the shafts.

Can we use an air wrench's sockets.. or maybe just hit lowes and get some reinfirced steel pipe or something and have it cut to the size we need... assuming they have ones of the right diameter and thickness..

I saw a press accessry kit @ otc or something for a 50 ton press @$300. Then saw a kit from sears for like $1400. Then I saw one of the HF ball joint things, http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=46389 but I dont know if you can press those or not or even if they will fit

I also looked at the http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=96718

or

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=44899

If I could get a couple of those rings, the punch tool, and then get the extension tube from the other one, id be set

I really dont want to spend 200 to get both

I have spent all weekend doing internet searches trying to find someone who just sold the etension tubes/pipes or just the punch bits or those rings for a 12 ton press... no luck.

Any help?

Thanks guys

I make use of 3 "special" tools when doing a T56:

1) Some nice Snap On snap ring pliers (for removing the large snap rings)
2) An OTC 5-6 driven gear puller (really the best tool for the job if the 5-6 driven is still press fit; many come loose after driving a lot of miles and you don't need the tool)
3) Good sized Bearing Splitter, for removing the pressed on gears at the front of the main shaft.

I've done rebuilds without #1 and #2, though it was much more painful without them. #3 and a press is pretty much required though.

Pressing stuff really doesn't require anything special, I use sockets, pipe, whatever... we're not talking about a lot of pressure here, just enough to force the pieces on... You won't be using all 12 tons (I use a 20T HF press, and it's pretty easy going).

/\ - I have a 20 ton HF press as well. Plenty of ***** and then some for T-56 stuff. A 12 ton would be fine.
