Default Looking into buying a M6 GTO (2006) what usually breaks first?

I am looking into buying a m6 2006 gto with the ls2. If I mod the car with say heads and cam what will break first? Are the rear ends week on the GTO like the fbodys? also what problems do I need to watch for when buying one? The one I am looking at has a little under 30k miles.

I have a head cam GTO, first thing you want to do is replace the clutch and shifter and get a braided line for the clutch. I did not mod it last year and noticed it very hard to not heat the clutch up too fast. They dont handle modd's very nicely. I have done probably 40 passes on the car since the head/cam work and the drivetrain does handle it. I am not doing 5k launches with Mickeys yet but I am going to do a full built rear end from driveshaft back this winter. The sub axels and the driveshaft are probably the weekest link. If your not going to drag it hard core the rear end set-up is a overkill. You could just do stub axles and be fine for heavy street abuse. There are guys running serious power with stock everything too though.

Shocks/struts/springs/mounts all start sagging around 20k miles causing uneven tire wear.

I think everything else is pretty solid like the other GM LSx cars. The reply above is about right for the rear.

Like everone else has said the stubs and axles, if you making good power with good traction. Clutch is somewhat week and the shifter gets sloppy when your on it hard.
Do some suspension mods to help you get the power to the ground.

funny,

my car must be super tough,
it's not been breaking much.....

my stock clutch lasted over 35000 miles,
over 300 passes down the 1320
a dozen or so auto-x events

(10k miles and 100 passes were with mickey thompson ETstreets and 100 shot of nitrous, cutting 1.6x 60' times with 500rwhp and 600rwtq)

only thing i replaced was the cv shafts and axle stubs (didn't break them, but one stub had twisted splines from my 1.55 60' launching)

of course with my LS7 clutch, I can't get my launch down
done at 36000 miles, because I wanted to (it wasn't dead yet)

had to do brakes at 45K miles tho

Well, I would have to say clutch. For the simple reason that mine is now slipping on me at the track. Also, the suspenion on these cars tends to wear out rather quickly.

I went through 3 rears and 3 times I broke the 3rd gear Syncro....I even broke the actually shifter handle LOL....My mods...K&N drop in filter...Granted I was powershifting 2 out of the 3 times 3rd went...The rear would start to wine on me every 6-7K miles...I only made 2 passes on my MT's DR's and sold them so the car didn't see sub 2.0 60' often at all.....Othet than that...the motor did wonders to be honest....a joy to drive in sub 70F air....

How much does it cost to replace all that? Nothing performance special, just for a DD car.

I have an '05 and the first thing that usually breaks is your bank account. Parts for the GTO's are not cheap.

Seriously though..........clutch, rear diff, axle stubs, cv joints.
