Default Few probelms with 01 Z28

I have an Automatic 01 Z28 and im having a couple of issues...

The First....

When I start it cold, It makes a tinkering sound kinda like it is low on oil. The sound will quit after i take off and get going, but it will not make this sound while idoling.

The Second Probelm....

It seems like it doesnt want to shift into 1st gear. It kinda shifts hard. When I first got the car it shifted very smoothly. Could this be Transmission fluid? Im scared to put to much in it. I dont really understand how to read the dip stick.

Third Probelm...

I hear a groaning sound that seems like its coming from the dash or under the dash while driving or taking off quickly. It kinda sounds like something is loose.

Any help is appreciated.

Your first problem sounds like the LS1 tick alot of them do that.#2 sounds like it may be low on fluid.Check it .If low add some a little @ a time.#3 they creek and groan so try to move it yourself to find out where and if you can tighten it up.

ticking noise is somewhat normal could be a lifter though but either way not too serious

the trans probably just needs replaced/rebuilt low fluid could cause that but the 4l60e is known for problems

as far as under the dash i have no idea id have to hear it

How many miles are on this car first of all? Sounds like it could be the famous LS1 tick

Secondly, if you can't read the dipstick do not add fluid. Ask somebody to help you that knows how to read it. Also, since it's an auto I assume you mean it doesn't want to shift out of first gear? You said in to first gear.

As far as the third issue I have no idea. These cars are noisy as he said above and make some creaks and groans.

It has 81k miles on it. I have put about 2k of those miles on it. Yes I meant it acts like it wants to stay in first. It will shift much smoother if i give it more gas. Would a Trans Flush possibly help?

Yes, you should have the tranny flush done @ 60,000 so i would say your do for one. They make a big difference in the life of your tranny.

My 01 Z28 ls1 M6 makes a tinkering noise when its idleing and it has 33k miles on it and as far as the trans that might be sediment blocking a port in the valve body not allowing the trans to shift right, or that could just be the way it is. Also look into if the previous owner had added a shift kit or and trans modifications, or even messed with the computer and shift points/rpm.

That noise under the dash does it happen only when the blower is on ?

it ticks when the oil is cool. once its warmed up it will stop ticking. i HIGHLY recommend not pushing the car hard while its ticking. i usually let it sit idle or if i do drive it while its ticking i coast, dont hit the gas at all. it will greatly decrease the life of the engine if you push it hard when the oil is cold still.

Its not hard to check the tranny fluid. Follow the instructions in the owners manual (if you have it) or do what was said earlier. drive the car for a little bit to warm it up, then check the fluid with the engine on. if you check with the engine off or cold, it will say its lower than it is, and youll add too much and blow out the tranny.

Try adding an oil additive like Lucas Oil. It sticks to the metal in the engine better and will help with those cold starts to keep everything lubed up and prevent metal to metal contact. Get the transmission flushed, fluid and filter changed. And f-bodies just sqeek and rattle thanks to GM's build quality.
