premature tire wear

premature tire wear i heard this is a common problem on GTOs. mine are shot at 18k. my rears are wearing on the inside. will a 4 wheel alignment fix this? id like to avoid upgrading my suspension.

yes, come to think of it, the first set of tires was messed up badly on the inside.
MY tires looked fine, just a little bit worn looking at them while on the car. so one day i get a flat. I pull the tire off on the side of the road to change it, and whats this? Metal thread exposed all along the inside corner of the tire!! I mean, the tire had to be worn down over an inch more on the inside corner then the rest of the tire. I was shocked to say the least!
I pulled all four tires off, and all were this way. I had to replace the tires, and got a full alignment and realised how smurfed my toe in, camber, etc were.
u highly suggest everyone check this on their goat.

I have 22k on my original tires and the only issue with mine are the rears, and that is my own doing from several track days. The fronts still look almost new. Tire wear in the center is almost always attributed to over inflation. I run mine as the sticker on the drivers side door post suggests at 39 rear and 36 front. I have 18's.

That is what is causing the uneven wear. The inside of the tire wears faster than the rest.
The cheap fix is drag bags. Or change the shocks and springs.
A 4 wheel alignment will cure the problem. My first set of tires wore at 24K, my second set the rear wore out at 20K but only from doing too many burnouts! The wear on them were even across the tire and the fronts still had at another 10K miles left. These were Toyo T1-R which have a low tire wear rating number.
My current tires, Toyo Proxe4 have 7K miles and still look brand new.
