I need everyone opinion, this should be good. Alright, heres the dealio. When i was 9 years old i fell in love with a 1968 camaro that my sister bought for 2300 dollars. since that day 13 years ago i have been a die hard chevy fan, i tinkered with the camaro a bit every now and then but now it sits in our back yard hoping, waiting for a chance for revival. I currently drive a 2000 vr6 jetta i owe about 2 grand on it, it KBBs for probably 4 grand. A good friend of mine drives a monster of an automobile, a 99 SS camaro that i think about everyday. So here's the question i ask ya'll (yea i said it)? do i sell the VEE-Dub and put as much as i can toward the 4th gen. SS or Z28, or do i finally dust off the rust and put it toward the 68. since i've felt the power of the fuel injected ls1 i dont know if the old school carb'ed 350 will scratch it, will i be able to convert this old 1st gen into an asphault ripping machine that the 4th gens are. i also have to consider leisure driveability, this will be my only means of transportation. it has some body rust but nothing too bad. im torn guys i want the 1st gen but am i biting off more than i can chew. Keep in mind i am a college student so time and money will be an issue at times. thanks in advance for your feedback, i look forward to your responses.
You could restore the body of the 68 and then drop a modern LSx motor in it

Would cost a lot and take time though so if you decided to do something like that, I'd keep your current car to get to school and all that while working on the 68 a bit at time as you are able.By "cost alot" what kind of price am i looking at, i will no longer have a monthly note and i wont have full coverage insurance, so i will have extra cash every month. i will be doing all the work myself, as long as i dont have to cut anything im good,lol, how complicated is the swap to an lsx, a few years back i did drop $600 on a new wiring harness, so the electrical hookups for anything wont be a problem. i dont know if that would be an issue or not, im not to keen on EFI though, ive really only worked with carb's, thats really where im gettin scared. thanks for your input.
If the 68 has all the origanal drive train i would restore it back to factory specs and keep driving the car you have now.Then if you want to sell it you can get a brand new 2010 SS for what the 68 will be worth.

Id say go with the 68, more fun. Raw power, no emissions. Light as ****! Id say 3100lbs w/o driver. Can only be made lighter. A crate motor big block with 500hp slap a blower on that youll have all the power you need. More work depending how bad the body is but youll treasure it more in the end, get more looks, and have more fun.

I would stay with the 68 and keep your VW as something you can use while you are working on the other and going to school.
stay with the 68 fare as what it would take to restore it depends on how fare you are wanting to go with it i got a 69 that i have been restoreing sence 03 got little over 15k and still ant done yet
i have both a 1st Jen camaro, and i also have a Lt1. i got my 68 when i was still in high school, the thing was just a diamond in the ruff, it also sat in my drive way for like 3 years. after high school i was supposed to play ball at Fresno State, but on my way i tore my ACL in my left knee and that is where that dream ended... i been building that car for about 4 years now, is a slow process but i love that car... i have a SB 350 in it, with some camel hump heads, 373 gears in the rear and a 3500 stall, to clear the monster cam i have in it, and 150 shot of NOS, and trust no lt1 or Ls1 that i have raced have been able to pull... just think about it...
