It might be possible, but why convert it? When you get done swapping all of the parts over, It's going to look just like a 3rd gen column. It would be easier to use the whole 3rd gen column and just swap the part where it mounts through the firewall, where it bolts under the dash, and the coupler where the rag joint mounts from your original column. One other thing I forgot, the coupler at the rag joint is only removable on your original column if it's a tilt, straight columns it dosen't come off. Hope this helps.
I you have tilt you can swap the entire top of the column from the 3rd gen column onto the 1st gen column. THat is what I did when I built my 69. If not, your prety much screwed. Only other option woud be to take apart a 3 gen cruise switch and dupicate the electrics your self. Place a switch on the dash to turn it on and off and use a 1st gen turn signal stalk lever with the cruise set button. THis is the route I'd go if you don't want to change the look of the car.

Wow.. That sounds interesting.. Do you have any pictures of the 3rd gen top column on the 1st gen bottom tilt column? That would be perfect for the '69 camaro I'm building.. Do you use the electronics from the 3rd gen column and how do they mate up to the 1st gen harness under the dash? Appreciate any info..
