jomomma,
I don't know how big a T56 is but with the little bit of experience I have gained thus far, I wouldn't weld up the floor panel yet. you Might need to "message" the tunnel a little and if you have to undo some of your hard work, [if you are anything like me] you might be a little pissed off.

I love that car man! It is going to be awesome. I can't help but feel I am taking one step forward and two steps back everyday. but you have more experience with this stuff than I do from the looks of that truck. That thing is cool too!!!! I sure as hell wish I had your shop and lift too.

thanks for the kind words rob! you look like you`ve been working through your problems pretty good. i think im going to just stitch weld the pan in for now. but i would rather alter a panel thats in place than try and mate a pan to a beat up floor. lol!

That floor is looking good. Are you overlaping the new floor over on the old one or butt welding it in place?

Wow, and I thought a basic motor and tranny rebuild was a lot work. Keep up the good work and keep the in progress pictures coming.

ive been waiting for some weldthrough primer to come in, so i cant finish welding out my floorpan just yet. so.......

i decided to see what im going to be dealing with as far as fitment.

a little tighter engine bay than my c10 engine bay! lol!

after the kids get to bed tonight im going to bolt the trans to the motor and mark where the shifter comes through the floor. and im going to see how the ls/t56 fit at the correct angle.

i mated the trans to the motor and slid it in. this is going to be a tight fit. im going to keep fbody motor mounts and build a stand off the crossmember to fit to the fbody mounts. i have a truck oil pan on for now. it is hanging below the crossmember about 1" i think i will get an lh8 oilpan for the final fit up. headers will be the last big hoop to jump threw! the alt and ac compressor fit pretty good at the moment.

Are you going to build your own headers? I would think someone would make a set for this install. They make them for the camaro so those may fit as well.

I would like to see how that floor comes out. Pic's would be good when you get that done if you have the time. You could use some seam sealer to seal the welded area up pretty good as well.
