Are you running the GM ignition setup? How did you tie in your Ford ignition cylinder? I will be doing this swap here in the next few weeks, and this is one of my main concerns.

SVT rob - i'm running megasquirt for the fuel and MSD 6010 for coil control. I already had a 92-up solenoid-on-starter upgrade so hooking up the starter was the same as the Ford. I see you have a 83 model. The factory starter solenoid on the DS fender stays there. You just hook the heavy wire going to the factory starter to the "power" side of the solenoid. Then a trigger wire goes from the "switched" side of the solenoid down to the solenoid on the starter.. voala, it will crank over. I also used the Ford water temp and oil pressure sensors so my gauges would work without problems. There is a seperate water temp and air temp sensor for the megasquirt though.

i have been asking ?'s in the wrong section all along . i just totaled my 00 z28 and want to do this with the engine and trans. how hard is it really i have the complete camaro in my yard. what is involved is it very difficult (i was told it is very hard to do ) i hope not. i even want to turbo the car only i want to run a single 91 or 94 either 377 or 402 combo.

you cant just use the factory gm ls1 ecu to run the car. if so why not ? the trans cross member seems to be the most difficult problem . that is not a brain buster by any means. also instead of the 4l80 i was going to use the stock 4l60 for now to get it running. did you use the ls1 or basic sbc k member when you did the swap.

Awesome. I'm actually going to be running all the Autometer gauges that I had used in my 84 Z28, so I'll be using those sensors as well. I'm going to run the LS1 ecu, so as long as I have power to that, I should be alright for fuel. As far as I can tell, this is a pretty easy swap. I've read through a few of the build up threads, everyone's cars has come out really nice. I'm going to be going through the LS1 ECU harness tomorrow, getting rid of everything I don't need. That's going to be fun.

Oh ... I guess the other question is, how did you wire the alternator? Just follow the GM wiring schematics and do like you would for a 130-amp Mustang upgrade?

SVT- we'll see about the ALT wiring. Still on the fence about that. But i'm not worried about it till I can get the car running.

kng- it's really a very easy swap. I am using a k-member for a fox 302. nothing special. If you want to spend some money you can buy a swap k from AJE and eliminate any issues you may have. I set my engine down and back 1" so a swap k was not for me

Thanks for the help, I hope to have mine running and driving by spring break. I just started going through the wiring harness tonight, I think I have everything trimmed out that needs to be out. I found some cut wires that ran to connectors that were still connected, so I have to see if they are "needed" or not.

Oh ... I still have to remove the rear O2 harness portion, then I'm done with that portion of it.

Dman,

Looks like you used a Mod motor power steering pump. Very interesting how you did that. Do you have any other pictures of it.

yeah, looking back i should have just used the truck PS pump, and the way my downpipe runs i still could without any problem. The pump is off a 4.6, i made a 90* bracket that bolts to the cylinder head. Looks strong as hell but we'll see how it goes. If it fails, the truck set-up is going on. I'll get some pics for you, although it's hidden under the alt bracket.

I was going to as I figured wiring would be already done. But getting a bracket together was turning into a pain in the *** so i just stuck a truck bracket / Alt on there. Now I just need to figure out the wiring.

if you look close you'll notice i removed the stock truck idler pulley and made an adapter to relocate it to just below the Alt using an existing bolt. gives the belt great coverage.
