I had that same exact ORY in pic 1.... I hated how it sounded... mad rasp and a hammering noise from 2000-2500 RPM. So I bought a flowmaster merge, and had that installed. Now car sounds better, tho still a bit of rasp... The merge I got though was a 3" to 3.5"... not 4" like the OP did. Maybe rasp would be gone if I had went with the bigger merge. Nonetheless it was worth every penny and I would suggest to anyone to go with this merge.
On a side note, where do u get a stainless cutout like that but in 3.5"? Price?
Ticks Performance has Cutouts in 3 inch, 3.5 inch and 4 inch...all the same price I believe.

I dont understand why header companies dont bother to put in a decent merge for their ypipes. Theyre missing out on half the gains

As far as I am concerned My Pacesetters are just as good as anyother Header out there now. Considering what I did. Maybe +/- 2-3 rwhp

So this flowmaster merger Y-pipe can be used together with any aftermarket long tube headers and replace the factory Y?

Exactly. Check out the link in my sig on the 4" PaceSetter Y. Hacking out the pacesetter merge and puting in a flowmaster merge made for a huge sound improvement. There was a noticeable drop in bottom end, but a huge difference on the top.

I bet that Y pipe above with the dump sounds badass.

thanks for the clear explanation boss- so now do we just install this piece in place of the existing Y pipe? Also, can this be fabbed up to a catted Y pipe?

Remember very important not any y merger will give u the desired results. You want a 3 inch dual merger goin into a 4 inch intermediate pipe then back into a 3 inch exhaust, like patrick states anything smaller than 4 inch will not get desired results. My exhaust tone changed. No more drone and picked up about 10 rwtrq from 2500-4000 rpms.

Basically you take this piece, cut of the merge on you pre existing Y pipie and you weld this one to it.

But to be honest why go thru all the trouble and do what i said above, when you can make custom 3" Y using the Flowmaster merge for less? That is what i did...

That's true too. I guess you can just give the muffler shop the flowmaster merger and tell them you want a 3inch Y pipe, rite?

NO The correct part number is Flo- Y300400 Again u want to use a dual 3 inch go into a 4inch. I could be a cutout or exhaust system. Mine is a LM Exhaust.

Example: I run pacesetter LT. I bought TSP Catted Y. I had the muffler shop cut where both y pipes come together and make a dual 3inch as u see in patricks photo exactly like that. Weld the FM on your y pipe then use a cutout or in my case an exhaust system.

You don't need to go 3" into 4". i have the 3" into 3.5" you will need a reducer regardless

Merging the twin pipes coming off the headers is a critical item for power and sound quality. Vettes have it easy because an x-pipe easily fits and the sound quality is awesome. F-bodies are handicapped because of space constraints. For 500 rwhp, you want to run dual 3" pipes after the headers and you'll want them to merge into a 4" intermediate pipe. Anything smaller will run the risk of flow loss. Most y-pipes on the market slam the 2 pipes together like this:

This is a quote from Pat G 500 rwhp Recipe. You can do what U want but I followed what He had said Mine is 3inch running into a 4 inch back to 3 inch. Now it has great flow. Anything smaller than smaller you run risk of flow loss.

You are not going to lose any flow from 4" into 3.5".... On the merge, the 4" part is only like 2" long. You tell me from that portion you are going to gain a lot?

dr gas that makes the nice xpipes recommend merging the pipes into one thats .5" bigger. 3.5" would be fine. Probably makes better torque than the 4"merge
